THe picture quality is slightly better depending on if you have the right tv and the right setup. The quality also depends on the transfer of the DVD, so long story short, there isnt much better about Blu. In terms of video quality I see it as DVD=%90 of video, Blu=%100 with VHS bein about a 50% on the quality scale. The sound is supposed to be amazing if you have a 7.1 system. If you dont notice a slight difference, then I dont know what to tell you. Its not much better than DVD though, Ive rented 5 Blu movies and just got one for christmas and they just dont offer extra much compared to the DVD.

Some Blus have exclusive features and some have less features than the DVD version.

Picture quality is far more than 10% better than dvd. DVD is 480i resolution native. BD is much higher, generally 1080i at least. If you cant tell a difference, or the difference is minimal, than you either have a crap TV, poor setup/incorect setup or crappy eyes.  The sound is also much better, but you do need to have a pretty good system to notice the difference.

Oh, I almost forgot...BDLIVE. That is an outstanding feature that gives you access to extras the DVD will never get. The Darkknight BD had a web event that you could atend with I believe the director of the movie and watch it with him. He was also answering questions about the movie and giving his personal take on what hapened. All LIVE.

Its amazing that I have a top of the line tv set up with the avia home theater guide have nearly 20/20 vision yet the experts on this forum feel that my tv is set up incorrectly, I am blind or a bitter HDDVD fanboy.

IMO I think a lot of people dont actually see much of a difference, but convince themselves that they do since they paid a premium. As an example I use this.....Some girl I was trying to get with wanted to see Date movie or Meet the Spartans or some shit movie like that. So we go to the movies and the audience is having a laug riot at the most bullshit unfunny moments. I personally think they are laughing because they paid a premium to laugh at that movie. They went in to the movie with the mindset that they want to laugh, they have to laugh since they are paying good money to see it. I feel many Blu supporters pay a premium for their movies and thus going into the move are going to see a huge leap in quality no matter what because they paid for HD and they are going to get it, even when its not there.

I will admit since the beginning of the HD war CG animation movies look great, but everything else is just a slight improvment over the DVD version.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I have to agree with a lot of what you said.  It seems that some people are in full denial 99% of the time around here.  I own a decent tv and have decent eyesite.  Yes I can see some minor improvements over an upconverted dvd.  However I feel it is not as much as a lot of people make it out to be.  The question is, was it worth that $400 investment plus up to 50% more per movie?  I feel like it isn't and that I shouldn't have bought into the hype.  Does that make me stupid?  No, but it doesn't make me wrong either.

I watched the Dark Knight at an IMAX cinema, and all the proper IMAX bits are a different aspect ratio. It's just the way it was filmed rather than anything wierd with Blu-Ray.

Also I got the Blu-Ray for Christmas - hoping to watch it tonight so I'll let you know my thoughts. I've got a 37" 1080p set - the Sharp LC37XD1E which was one of the first LCDs with decent black levels (which IMO is much more important than contrast ratio).

My recommendation if you want to be impressed by Blu-Ray is to get Planet Earth - it's probably the best wildlife documentary I've seen, and filmed throughout with fantastic cameras. I watched the series on TV first time around, and later saw the full HD version playing in a shop on a demo unit (properly set up!!). It became one of the main reasons I got a PS3, and was the first Blu-Ray I bought.

Everything! I swear, on a TV larger than 42 inches, you can totallly see the difference! It's why everyone cares so much about Blu-Ray. We all have 50+ inch LCDs we don't know what to do with. I got to get me one.

I have a 1080P 8000:1 Sony 42 inch Bravia, I have Transformers on DVD and Blu Ray and the difference is amazing, The Picture is clearer and crisper and the colours are fuller . Also things in Background are way clearer on Blu Ray. The sound difference is astounding.

I generally ignore the OMG, YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE!? BIAS!!!! people.  True, I don't have 1080p and 7.1 sound, but most people don't have 1080p and 7.1 sound either. I do have good vision, 40" Sony Bravia, 1080i, 720p, perfectly setup TV for my room, and 5.1 sound but I guess that's not enough.

I accept that some people really see the difference or think they see the difference.  That's cool.  I just don't get the people that for some odd reason think everyone must see and think exactly how they do.

This sort of it explains it then.  Vizio's are decent TV's for the price, but certainly don't compete with the more expensive brands.

Your contrast ratio can drastically affect your picture quality (both on DVD's and on Blu-Rays).

And to those who act like you need to pay $4K for a nice TV you are full of it.  I got one of the nicest LCD's on the market for $1350.  Prices have gotten way more reasonable on TV's then they used to be.  Shop online too to save money.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Put in blu-ray Rattatuei or Wall-E , if you still can't tell the difference, then just buy everything on DVD.
