Forums - Gaming - What'll sell more: Tales of Symphonia: KoR (Wii) or Tales of Innocence (DS)

It really depends on the quality of the games. If you look at Tales of the Tempest, you see that bad Tales games have lots of problems to sell good.

The development team for ToI is the team that made the tales of the world games, not the actual tales of studio. I'm not quite sure if that studio is developing ToS:KoR but I think it is, and therefore I expect a higher quality for the Wii game.

Because of that, I say that ToS:KoR will outsell ToI. Especially because the Wii game will probably come to the west while I'm not quite sure about ToI.

Claude you realize you're actively preventing this thread from achieving anything worthwhile in the way of discussion. All you're doing is shooting down everything anyone has to say. Knock it off.

Why the hell are you such an ashole? Your're attacking Claude for no reason while you are not contributing at all to this discussion!

Just for your information, I'll report this posts now, and it's the first time since I'm on this page that I report posts.

Sigh... I don't know why I bother anymore. It seems i was better recieved on this forum when I had Kber81's avatar.

How about this Sporticus. Treat other posters with respect, and then you won't have to wonder why you still bother? Claude didn't say anything to warrant your attacks.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Id bet on the Symphonia one simply because its an RPG on wii.
TOI has too much RPG competition on the DS..
correct me if im wrong but what other developer has the balls to release a game on the wii that doesnt use motion controls?.

anyway i hope they move the main series to home consoles again..
and how much mb can one ds cartridge hold?.

!. Name any other major RPG that will launch around the time of ToS. Oh, and for the record, I happen to like FF spin offs such as Crystal Chronicles and am looking forword to Crystal Chronicles Wii and DS, as well as Final Fantasy XII DS. If no one cared about spin offs, no one would buy them, and no one, especially Square, would continue to make them, so speak for yourself.

2. I think if Symphonia would have came out exclusively for PS2 in the US it would have performed as poorly as the other Tales games for the system, but Symphonia was released to an audience that was starved for a great RPG ( a la Wii). Now that the game has a sizeable following, I think it can eclipse the original and bring in new fans as well. It was no fluke at all

1. RK has no definitive date outside of Spring 2008 for Japan. The Wii 2008 lineup is almost a mystery so it's silly to assume that nothing else will be there weeks before or afterwards. Not only that but you keep using Square and Final Fantasy to validate Tales. Different series, different company. FF spinoffs have no impact on Tales spinoffs, especially since they are treated differently by their developers.

2. Of course it was a fluke. It was a one time success story so far. Baten Kaitos didn't get nearly the same treatment, yet with this supposed explanation that lack of RPGs = instant success you'd think it would. That, and I find it a bit hard to believe that someone honestly thinks a spinoff with half the production values and development time of Symphonia and highly experimental gameplay additions (monster breeding) is somehow going to "eclipse" it. People are expecting a little bit more than this game was intended to give.

If there is a small number of JRPGs on the Wii by the time this game comes out (which I expect will be the case) then it should do well enough cause of lack of other options by logic, especially so in Japan.

That said, the DS one will definitely sell better for many reasons already mentioned in this thread. The DS one looks more impressive too (considering the system).

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

wow, sup @ claude, I'm glad there is a real RPG gamer besides me on the forums.

Tales of symphonia sold well because it was released when there no rpgs on the gamecube. It was the best selling game in the entire Tales series, which doesn't well well outside of japan. It was a fluke. Just ask namco why they hesitate every time to localize a Tales game. I own 2 copies of the game, i support the series so that future Tales titles get localized.

ohhh and @ sporticus who was attacking claude for no reason about his star ocean sig.

Did you know that the first Tales game ever, "Tales of Phantasia" was developed by Wolfteam who then formed tri-Ace, and guess what? they make the Star Ocean games.

I hope he's not a real RPG gamer, because if that's so, he makes us all look really bad.

Someone that tells you ToS:Ratatosk No Kishi is not a sequel to ToS, linking to an article that explicitely says several time it's a sequel, and said article explains why it's a sequel but without the number 2 after it, is someone that can't think right.

As to how well they will sell, it's a very wild guess for now, as we don't know a lot about either episode. It mostly depends on which team does each one.

If Symphonia team (whatever their name) does the ToS sequel, and the other on DS gets a less succesful one, ToS sequel will sell more. Then there are several combinations of possibilities.

And it's true ToI may have to compete with FFTA2 and some other RPG, so it's really hard to tell which can sell more.

1) First of all, you're a clown. I didn't know being able to think intelligently and tell the difference between a direct sequel and spinoffs in a series that never had a problem with the distinction before could make anyone look bad. At least, not any worse than when you decided to chime in.

2) I think people have this narrow mainded approach that it taking place after Symphonia somehow negates the fact that it's a spinoff, as if previous Tales spinoffs haven't taken place after specific games. Is it a sequel? Of course, what was it supposed to be, an alternate reality? Is it a direct sequel? No, it's a spinoff with experimental gameplay characteristic of Tales spinoffs. Anyone who can't make the distinction between Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon is someone that can't think right.

So, I'm to break this down slowly for those who still don't understand, or people unfamiliar with the series.

Tales of Destiny 2 = Direct sequel and 4th main game in the series

Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon = Spinoff, takes place after Phantasia

Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk = Spinoff, takes place after Symphonia

Tales of Innocence = Next main game in the series
