Forums - Sony Discussion - Looks like Forza 3 will not compete with GT5 in 2009...

A lot of people are making asumptions that Forza 3 will come out this year to compete with GT5. Well it seems GT5 is pushed to 2010.

http://kotaku.com/5118092/yamauchi-hasnt-given-a-lot-of-thought-to-gt5-wont-be-out-until-at-least-2010

I really don't understand Sony here. Why wasnt GT5 a top priority in sonys camp? Don't they want to sell systems? GT5 has been taunted as the biggest killer app and people have used it as an argument on these forums as the reason to buy PS3 for before PS3 even came out.

What are the reactions to this news? Is Forza 3 still going to come out this year do you think? Does GT5 coming out 4 years after systems launch count as a major screw up on Sonys wall of PS3 screw ups? Thoughts?

EDIT: This interview is apparently 4 months old. According to GT5 die hards, the statement that Sony made about GT5 coming out in Europe for Christmas 2009 still stands.

import tuner article interview was done in september, Armstrong's xmas 09 release statement was months after that.

To be honest there wasn't going to be any real 'competition' between the two titles to begin with. Past the usual fanboy arguments over metacritic scores of course. The titles are releasing on different platforms, one being a much bigger franchise then the other.

It's dissapointing Polyphony Digital are taking so long developing the title. The PS3 could have sorely used an exclusive of that cailbur as long as a year ago, to attract more gamers to the platform. As it stands GT5 will probably arrive so late in the gen as to have only a marginal effect on hardware sales, only the slightest of spikes compared to the sustained effect that could have been.

I understand that GT5 is much bigger franchise and the yardstick that all racing games are emasured...but lets not pretend that Forza 3 isn't trying to compete with the best. Forza 2 was certanly a quality title. What are killzone 2 and Resistance 2 doing being called Sony answer to Halo and Gears?

Beginning to think this thread was only started to perpetuate a fanboy argument.  Your inclusion of killzone 2 (not even released)and r2 as sony killers to Halo and gears has only derailed your own thread about a complete different genre of game.

The article even says maybe 2010. GT5 will end up competing with Forza 4 at this rate. Maybe 2009 will have a GTP5 #2 "The extended prologue version"?? This is becoming a joke title...

don't use forza and gran turismo in same sentence ,,it's an insult to GT ,,,baziing lol
jk

this interview is old though

Sony should find out the week Forza 3 releases and for the giggles release GT5 the same week, that would be stone cold.
