Forums - PC - Gaming PC question...are these specs enough?

Your upgrade plan looks OK, because you are very RAM short. IGB is just barely enough to run the OS let alone a game.

But in case you are still thinking about a possible replacement for something with better growth potential, there are some decent after Xmas sales.  For example I saw this one at CyberPowerPC

I like Cyber Power because they are one of the few that lets you selecy brand. not just type of RAM etc. This model is CrossFire ready it you want to go full bore for the price od a 2nd GPU.

 Socket AM2 AMD Athlon X2 6000+

  • • AMD 790GX CrossFireX Mainboard
  • • 4GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM
  • • 500GB 7200RPM SATA-II HD
  • • ATI HD4850 512MB Video Card
  • 20X DVD Rewritable Drive
    (Free Upgrade!) 6X Blu-Ray Player / DVD+-RW Drive
  • • High Definition 7.1 Sound
  • • 600Watts Stereo Speakers
  • • Sigma Gaming WindStorm 500W Case w/ Side-Panel Fan  $675
  • Just an idea I toss out for you to consider.

I would go for the 7750 over the 6000+ though.

I got the ATI 4850 for 99 bucks(canadian). Also got OCZ 4 gigs of ram 800mhz, external 500 gig hard drive and some cheap hdmi chord. the whole thing cost me just under 250 bucks tax in.

Eventually when I have more money I may upgrade the processor but we will see how this holds up.

That's bollocks for canadians. The cheapest I found was ~$80 after rebate.

8800gs, while the price has gone up slightly since i bought it (blame the falling canadian dollar), still much cheaper:

the 8800gs is very easily overclockable as well. Mine is at 709 / 1702 / 902.

I know. I've already agreed the 8800GS is much better value than the 4650. However, the 9600GSO has completely replaced the 8800GS in the US (and Canada soon) as it is the same chip (so same performance) but rebranded, and is more expensive than the 4650 in Canada. So, the part which Nvidia intends to compete with ATI isn't better value.

yep, thats fair. I probably would of bought an ATi card myself if they were more compatible with osx86. Maybe the next generation of mac pros will provide some ati card options. The video card is the weakest part of my system, but i have no problem waiting for prices to come down.

Works wicked thus far...isntalling crysis warhead as I write this. Whoever told me that HDMI sound is only supported by ATI gets +1 in my books. That is a huge advantage as I've just realized I can get rid of all my other wires .

    It was me!

HD 4670 running via HDMI works great.

    Tease.

You don't even have to use fraps. Crysis has its own benchmark demo to report on your system performance.
