Forums - Nintendo - CoD: WaW Wii Will Sell 2 Million At Least

@Noname

LoL, I get it now. So a game like God of War was a flop on the PS2 because it only sold a couple million on a userbase of over 120 million. of course its so obvious! ;)

 @BigJon

I actually learned my lesson from listening to Wii sales reports and accusations of Wii flops. becuase I always get this feeling that "well what will happen in a couple months when (insert game) goes gold or past gold" But like you said Jon, COD4 was not on the Wii and that is the breakout game of the series. Like guitar hero 3 laid the foundation for WT to sell over two million. I also feel House of the dead will be successful basd on HOTD 2&3 laying the foundation.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Exactly! And if we use the attach base argument, you will quickly realize that GTA: San Andreas was a massive flop (only 15% of PS2 users at the time bought it. Imagine now!) while you'll find almost no flops on the Neo-Geo! Makes me wonder why developers didn't abandon the SNES/Genesis... :-/

Actually the softs were pretty good with the exception of a few games that are way off. Most of it is HD softs overtracked and a few Wii titles (I think brawl is about 50-100k over tracked)

But the amounts each number sold are about the same, I say it is safe to say that it sold at least 420k at number 19 in all of NA.

Except that between NPD numbers for October+November, and IGN's latest temper tantrum, we know that Wii Music (number 11) sold around 450k in the U.S. in December (according to the NPD), which is much less than the 761,321 VGChartz attributes to that position. And I find it tough to believe that the difference between #11 and #19 is less than 50k.

While I normally think this site's numbers are good enough (for the top 50 at least), it seems like December's a bit of a wreck, at least concerning the U.S.

I just missed this post. The 11th game by VGChartz (Wii Music) have sold 612k, you have to consider the 5 bundled games above it (New Super Mario Bros., Kung Fu Panda, Lego Indiana Jones, Wii Sports and Sega Superstars Tennis) don't count for NPD ranking...

Other point is that NPD just covers USA, while VGC covers America. Doing the proper considerations seen here (NPD = 87% VGC), it is almost "on spot" (a good thing!), doing the same for the 19th on VGC we can say that the 19th place sold 400k in the USA.

Hope you undestand :)

I totally forgot about the bolded part. My mistake, and nice catch.

I'm still not completely sold, mind you, but you make a better case than I first thought there was.

good explanation, also NSMB was bundled but still sold really really good. (crazy huh)

it still made the top 20 in NDP, unbundled.

You seem to get off the track. Even if you don't like the way I've put my opinion about this whole damage control you could at least pick up gauntlet and elaborete difference between this:

One of the biggest games releasing this upcoming week so obviously going to be raking in the big sales.

End of the Year

360: 2.50 million

PS3: 1.50 million

Wii: 800k

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=48420

and this thread (in relation to disappointing opening and sales overall).

How can you expect it to sell 1,5 after 60k opening if you've predicted 1,75 after opening almost fourfold as big?

You think I'm jealous? Nope pal. I just find it funny how people tend to use different expectation for favourit platform.

Fact is game tracks way below expectation... noone should be pleased. Game disappointed saleswise. Me at least

Kber81, you're point is noted. It sold less opening week than expected. It's sold far less than the two platforms with lower install base. Your case is made and done. Pushing the argument further isn't going to help your case any and will only create the perception that you're only trying to infuriate Wii owners

What we are trying to determine here is if the game is undertracked or not and how it stacks up against other "Wii" titles.

For the record, here is a list of game that sold poorly at launch and their current totals. Notice how CoD:WaW is tracking better than the top half of that list and how the bottom half shows several games will sales below 100k that have topped 1 million - some even at 2 million. Wii games simply have long legs that few consoles have ever seen. Launching low on Wii gives absolutely no indication that it will stay low as you can clearly see.

Obscure: The Aftermath - 2k - 50k - U.S. numbers only
Alone In The Dark - 6k - 110k
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire - 7k - 120k
Dewy's Adventure - 8k - 120k - no Euro numbers.
Manhunt 2 - 51k - 220k - U.S. numbers only
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - 41k - 230k - no Euro numbers
Prince of Persia: Rival Swords - 26k - 230k - U.S. numbers only
SSX Blur - 22k - 260k - U.S. numbers only.
Medal of Honor: 2 Heroes - 36k - 270k - non Euro numbers
Bully: Scholarship Edition - 29k - 380k
No More Heroes - 72k - 390k
Boom Blox - 57k - 710k -
The House of the 3 Dead 2 & Return - 49k - 930k
Endless Ocean - 45k - 870k
Red Steel - 142k - 1.08m
MySims - 87k - 1.38m
Rayman Raving Rabbids - 69k - 1.47m
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 - 78k - 1.58m
Game Party - 38k - 1.72m
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - 67k - 2.00m
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - 154k - 1.75m
Sonic and the Secret Rings - 96k - 2.09m
Guitar Hero: World Tour - 236k - 2.18m
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 276k - 3.93m

Why should I be disappointed?  Yes my opener was off, but my end of the year is going to be spot on.  If VGC updates to what NPD has, CoD WaW will be at about 800k at the end of the year.  Maybe you can't read, well interpret numbers is probably the better phrase, but my prediction for Wii was 800k at the end of the year.

Actually my CoD Wii predictions are more than likely going to be spot on.  It's my 360 and PS3 versions that are going to suffere and the funny thing is most of my predictions were the highest for the HD versions.  Actually you were the one that told me I'm over predicting for them.  Funny how these things work.

Sorry if I changed my anticipations later on.  Ya know that thing when new data comes in ya tend to predict a little differently.  I guess you don't.  That's probably not a good thing either becuase if you don't adjust to new data after initial hype anticipation of a title, you'll end up wrong 100% of the time.  Guess that's ok with you.  But right now I'm thinking COD WaW on Wii will be at about 1.5 milllion and I'm ok with adjusting that.

But your telling me that a game with a 60k opener can't sell 1.5 million or 1.75 million.   A lot of other games say hello.  But nope I'm very pleased because right now my predictions for the Wii version are spot on aside from the opener.  And if it wasn't you my 360 and PS3 predictions would be better.

So I don't know what your issues are, but you need that Wii version to fail for some reason.  I can sense it in you.  Why it matters so much to you that it does worse is I bet purely self-interest and really its disturbing that you keep pushing it.  You may think it's a disappointment but I'm sure to the one entity it matters to, Activision, is perfectly fine with the Wii sales right now.

@kber

yes this game is failing so bad it was harder to find over the holidays than the HD verison, now they did ship about 10x more copies of the other versions, but most companies measure success by a game ability to meet or excede their expectation, not what some Wii hating troll like you thinks it should sell. The fact it sold out in most places tells me it did much better than people expected.

When i first brought up this games undertracking a month ago, people said that they just did not ship ANY copies, I tried to tell them that it would be retarded for them not to, because... they were spending money on Advertising, which would be pretty stupid if they were shipping the game.
