It is disappointing but as others have stated it was not an MS backed title like BD and Lost Odyssey. Given the fact that BD is still the best selling 360 title in Japan, I seriously doubt MS would sever their relationship with Mistwalker. BD is their biggest hit in Japan and Lost Odyssey is the only JRPG that has sold well in the West this generation.

@DMJ

Lost Odyssey is the best turn based JRPG of this generation by far. It is far better than a good deal of SE's efforts. I'd take Lost Odyssey over just about every Final Fantasy released after VI, with only IX and X coming close to it. If Lost Odyssey had the been titled Final Fantasy, I guarantee you it would have been scored higher in reviews.

I will agree with this lost odyssey is the best jrpg so far this generation. I must say i strongly disagree with the rest though. Lost odyssey has nothing on ff7,8,9,10.

Well in my opinion FFVII and VIII are trash. So we disagree there. I felt IX was good but it not great. VII and VIII were so bad that IX seemed epic by comparison. X is the only Kitase/Nomura lead FF game that I thought was deserving of it's hype.

@ookaze

Lost Odyssey has sold better than either FE or ToS2. ToS2 may have the legs to pass it but FE is a niche franchise. I love FE, its one of my favorites but it's never really been a big seller.

Poor Mistwalker. Lost their publisher. Twice now it seems.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

Yep it sucks. I'm actually playing Blue Dragon right now and enjoying every single bit of it. I choose Japanese voice over the American voices because I heard the American voice overs suck.

So completely I agree Mistwalker did do an awesome job providing the 360 owners with 2 awesome JRPG's. And I thank them for it. Hopefully we will get a Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon sequel.

your correct if lost oddesey was called ?final fantasy : lost oddesey" it would have been reviewed higher and netted much more in sales............on top of that "glory boy" gamers would feel better about playing the game. which is pathetic, just proves you can only play games, not play hype and sales...........i hope they make a bd2 as i feel bd was better than lo..............i thought mistwalker was a 1qst party microsoft group?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

There was no need for MS to have Mistwalker anymore. Aside from Lost Odyssey, they didn't have a hit, and MS has SE and Namco under their thumb (read: checkbook), so it's no reason for Microsoft to pay for crappy JRPGs, when they can pay for good ones.

Mistwalker was this over-hyped company that delivered two 360 JRPGs that were okay, and 'good', but nothing astoundingly good like the upcoming SO4 or FFXIII, and then they tried to do the DS route, but found little success. And given how much MS has been trimming the fat off of their studios, it was bound to happen.

Goodbye Cry On, whatever you were.

So how much did you play of Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey?

Last I checked, the majority of VGCers put Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey near the top of the JRPG list for the X360. Blue Dragon has done something no other IP has done in Japan, and Lost Odyssey has done something no other JRPG has done in the West. Both are great titles.

At any rate, this is very dissapointing, but I guess AQ is to blame for this....Maybe if the game showed merit another studio (feel plus?) could pick it up. I hope MW still makes a 360 title or two, as both of their entries are great JRPGs. Lets hope that the new title Sakaguchi talked about a few months ago will be announced in short order.

You make a lot more sense than most post here, you know?  JRPG's really haven't been all that big this gen.  Like platformers before them, maybe the genre will never be as big again as it was in the past.  But the two best selling JRPG's on HD consoles (I say that because I can't remember if there was on one the Wii or not) this gen were released developed by Mistwalker.  And they were released to an unproven JRPG audience on the 360, which also has by far the smallest userbase in Japan (particularly when those two titles were released).

Don't really know what people expected of Mistwalker and those two titles, but looking at things realistically, the titles performed as good as to be expected (with LO's Japanese numbers being lower than expected) for new IP's from an unproven developer on a console not known for JRPG's.

Bah they were stupid enough to develop RPG's for 360 only so ... they deserve it, poor strategy! As we could see this year, 360 owners are not really into RPG's!

 *sigh*

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Sobs* I cried and shed a tear at this news..

360 owners not into RPGs ?? Pshhh I sniff at you and go back to FFXI online..

I'm surprised no one used this pun yet.

Cry moar.

This shouldn't be too surprising with the cost of games being so much and the sale of 360 JRPGs (Outside of LO & BD)  being lackluster.  Seems like too much of a risk with a new IP.   The safer bet would be to make JRPGs on handhelds.  Hopefully MS will fund the sequels to LO & BD.
