Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft: Disapointed by Prince of Persia's poor reception

Maybe they should try releasing out of the Xmas period, and 100 other games next time. It doesn't matter how cool or innovative it is - it comes across as "just the next PoP title for Xmas".

Also - both titles mentioned were PS3/360 - but not Wii titles. Wonder if that is an indicator of something...

This is directed to people that have played this PoP and also the last trilogy. PoP had fairly difficult and interesting environmental puzzles. The platforming was also not easy by any means. Is this new PoP dumbed down for the lack of a better term? I really am interested because I am a fan of the series.

You would find it dumbed down most likely, yes. Personally I feel it was a fantastic design choice in the platforming and the fighting to get the game running as fluidly as it does. It's true you are only partially controlling your movements and the game takes over for the remainder, but I do love how it made the game. If you're looking for difficult though, this isn't your game.

I expected Prince of Persia to have a lackluster reception. The only reason Assassins Creed did so well was because it was a graphical powerhouse in 2007. If it were released today, the game would bomb. I get PoP tomorrow, and I intend to enjoy it. Still, even the originals (wich were great games) were not smash hits. Ubi (EA?) should've seen this coming.

What a lie. The game sold on the promise of an assassin in a sandbox game. Almost no one said it was a graphical powerhouse.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

i bought the game on sale at gamestop for 40 bucks and i love it. Its way easy though and it seems as if you cant die like really.  It is sad cause alot of people will never play this game because its not really hyped, but then again games that are hyped sometimes get smashed

the game is way too repetitive. i got bored playing it for the first 2 hrs.

i felt lucky that i didnt buy it. my friend got his copy and it was on the ebay the 3rd day.

You can't release a good game in a season of excellent games and expect to survive. People don't have unlimited money. People don't want innovation, they want quality. Prince of Persia is more innovative than CoD:WaW, Gears 2, Fable II, but not as GOOD as CoD:WaW, Gears 2, Fable II.

And I think any faith in Prince of Persia people had from the 2D games and Sands of Time was destroyed by Warrior Within, and Two Thrones wasn't enough to reclaim it.

Anyway, I just got this game as a gift. I'll try it after I've finished R2's campaign and played some online.

I feel bad for Ubisoft because I like their games a lot nowadays, but I understand that PoP and similar games (like Mirros edge) don't sell well because jumping around like a maniac is really boring.

Same problem with Tomb raider. Uncarted is a little better because it loaned sum elements from Gears of War to combine sum nice shooting action with all that level hopping.

Some platform jumping is fun, but not too much.
