Forums - Sony - PS Home is making money ???????

Sony essentially created a world where they control the advertisements xD Home is going to rape the scale of maintenance/profit ratio's. If were already talking bullshit amazing figures, just wait till the content pours in, more spaces, more advertisements, more brand names, and it's all content for the users. Home is one of those things where you think you understand the concept, but then the reality of it is sooo much more xD

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

at least they are making money

Lol

Help I cant get my trophy card to work.

The Home model (outside the ads) is the excact same as it is in Habbo Hotel. When you look at it, Habbo Hotel is even funded solely with the microtransactions buying immaterial content to personalise their rooms/chracters, so it's no wonder that Home tries to emulate the model.
In a larger picture, WiiConnect and PSN are using the same idea; the service itself is free, but it's funded with Shop Channel/PSN store purchases.

Also, some of you who commented on the topic, should read the link where it says that 80% of the revenue is generated by 20% of users, so we really seem to be talking about the microtransactions, not advertising revenue.

It just isn't clear to me whether that is for all of Home or for the microtransactions alone. It doesn't say in the original article.

@Rainbird: As we have become familiar with the PR Sony has been making in the recent years, this could only imply that the revenue was created by users, when it would have been the ads that made the money. But, the quote from Pachinco is clearly stating that the revenue came from users, when the only way to get the ads into that revenue, would be to charge the advertisers by how many people viewed the ads.

Most of the people going to home, are sitting around gabbing with other people :P It's a social experience before all. Home offers a ton, and will continue to offer more and more for different types of users. My friend is a fairly shy, low self confidence kind of guy, and he is sadly using home to meet new people lol. I see him on it literally like 5 hours a day >_>;;; He spends the entire time talking to people and adding friends to his list lol.

The first thing you have to get out of your head is that home is useless in any way shape or form. It's a fantastic service, and the micro transactions are a very tiny part of a much larger picture. Sony is pure genius for Home. And once they get more of the XMB features up and running for it, I will personally be using it a ton more ^^

So it preys on teens with low self esteem?

Sorry, I don't mean that as any sort of negative against anybody.  Just from what you say it's a teen magnet for the shy crowd.  I can relate with that.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

SONY AND NINTENDO ARE THE BEST GAMING COMPANIES EVER SO ITS GREAT ONE IS MAKING MONEY!!!

Help I cant get my trophy card to work.

People buy stuff because they think it's cheap; apparently some are incapable to consider value instead of price only.

I would never buy the stuff but knowing fools are funding my favourite gaming company is fantastic!!!
