@Kaz, oh you could probably still make it :P It might just take more creative thought ;) I don't know what the new switches do, but they probably just make things a ton easier.

The new switches have damage indicators, so they need to be shot by the paintinator multiple times to trigger.

As for the other arguments ... LBP, on its own as a platformer with its 25 levels & minigames, is WELL WORTH $60. If you think otherwise than either ( a ) LBP clearly just wasn't up your alley in design, ( b ) you probably hated the floaty physics based controls vs the popular, traditional Mario-style arcade precision, or ( c ) you haven't bothered playing co-op and have missed a huge part of what makes LBP special.

The level creation tools are just gravy. Further, having played with & in the level editor, both on my own and with my son, anyone discrediting the power of the tools Mm provided is doing so without a clear understanding of what LBP is capable of. You need to spend an hour on YouTube looking at creations such as the Gradius level before you comment further on what Mm didn't give you that you think you're entitled to.

It seems pretty simple to me. LBP was made for children of all ages. Whether you're 8 or 28 or 68, you can enjoy LBP if you can appreciate its charms and its cuteness and all of that. If you can't, then that's fine too, just go play something else. But please, do us all a favor and go find some other thread to taint with ignorance.

The optional/expansion content is OPTIONAL. If you don't like it, don't buy it, and don't admonish those of us that did.

The amount of bitching and moaning around LBP is really quite extraordinary to me. My family has gotten dozens and dozens of hours of entertainment from it. My wife loves it. My eight year old son loves it. His friends love it. I love it. LBP will provide my whole family well over 100 hours of game play before it has run its course, I'm sure of that, and that is more than I can say for any other game released in the past three years aside from maybe Wii Sports, Pokemon D/P, and the Guitar Hero franchise. I have already personally invested more time on LBP than I did on Heavenly Sword and Motorstorm and a handful of other PS3 titles COMBINED. It is, IMHO, the best value in terms of cost/playtime going on the system outside of Fallout 3. If people cannot see that, then clearly LBP just wasn't meant for them and they should look for something else to play.

Whining about what you DID NOT get for free with LBP is, quite frankly, not only petty and shallow, but also demonstrates a collosal ignorance of game development, game design budgets and constraints, and the new 80-20 microtransaction-based e-conomy.

There is so much to the LBP package already. Stop complaining.

Except the level creating tools were sold as the main feature of the game.

Not the extras... the levels were supposed to be the "extras"

I believe it was the entire package. At least I knew that's what I was buying when I bought it. Also, you have no idea how unreasonable your complaining about the tools are. Your comparing this game to computer programs and things that this game never even tried or attempted to be like. They are entirely two different worlds. This game has a homemade feel to it. It's all about making entire levels and worlds out of everyday materials, not a damn computer program that lets you make a video game. That being said, with enough time, work, effort and ingenuity, you CAN create anything you can dream of, you could even make that gun and the switches, hell, i've seen working pianos and things in this game. But the entire idea is to simulate making these things in your backyard with everyday tools. If you can't grasp that then I'm sorry but you have no idea what this games about and you just want to make up your own idea of what the game should be and judge it on that.

Funny cause it was sold as a "Make your own platform game."

Regardless of what you see it as.  That's not what it was sold as.

It was advertised as a "Create a Platformer" game... it's clear as day from all of the ingame stuff, dev interviews and other videos they posted before the game was released.

Your the one who's opinions have changed since then.

Really? Cuz I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the game allows you to make, as well as so much more. I think if you go online with the game instead of making up pointless evidence you'll see thousands apon thousands of platforming levels made by users. Wow, really? This game lets you do that?

Was this game advertised as a "Create a Platformer" game? Yes. Is it a create a platformer game? Yes. Does it let you make platformers? Yes, and so much more. Does it do this with a particular style giving you homemade real world type materials to do this and has it always been advertised as so? Yes. Also, you ARE only limited by your imagination AND the ammount of work you put into it. Like I've said, you can make anywell you damn well please if your not lazy. This game doesn't grant you the powers of God.

You can go back and watch any video from pre-release and when they are making a level you can see just that. Sackboy constructs everything in a homemade fasion using homemade clothes and tools. It has always been shown exactly as it is. If you can't comprehend this, then there is no hope for you at all. Your just delusional. But hey, if this game isn't what you want, don't play it and we'll all be the happier for it. But this game is exactly what it has always been shown and advertised as.

Hey i'll still play it.  It just isn't what it was advertised, and your the delusional one.

I've watched the trailers a LOT actually... and nothing will really surprise me... since i've done it... and more before... there are always work arounds, the problem is when key fundamentals are left out so you can charge more later.

The point is... it breaks many rules that games of the genre had.... only to suck more money from people.

It's as if you got a FPS that suddenly charged you to be able to pick up opponents weapons. (Screw you Soldier Front.)

You said so yourself that you don't have this game yet and haven't played it, and yet you talk like you know everything about this game. You can not buy the MGS pack and absolutely nothing will change for you, it's the exact same game you had before. All the MGS pack does is PRE-make some items that would otherwise take a lot of skill and time to make yourself, but hey, you can still make it yourself just like before. Other then that, you pay for the MGS levels. I did this because, obviously, I'm a huge MGS fan. I bought the costumes too. But had I not, the game would have still been the exact same, hell I could have made the costumes myself if I wanted to (there's a user who has self made 52 costumes mimicking super heroes, video game characters, etc. and is constatnly making new ones) but I chose to buy them. It's completely optional and you lose nothing you would have had if you choose not to buy it. Make it yourself if you want to complain. Also, I'm sure Konami is getting money from the MGS levels, I don't think MM owns the MGS license. So, in the end, you have to pay for new MM levels based off of properties who will get royalties as well as some pre-made items to sweeten the deal. But I promise you anything that disc in that case contains the exact same information giving you the exact same tools and possiblities as it always has. Hell, if MM wanted to they could have forced you to buy the pack to even play the user made levels with the gun, but no, they give it to you to play with too for free!

There are new triggers yes?  That's why Vagabond says.

Triggers = the stuff that makes the games work well

Aka the main tool of any creation game.

This is stuff that should be fully be in any creation game.

The rest of the crap i could really care less about.  I've got no problem with charging for that shit.

The actual triggers though.  That's just stupid.

Triggers in a create a level platformer are like... the status screen of an RPG or something.

I should have to pay money to see how much more expierence i need to get to the next level.

Around the Network

The only trigger in the pack (someone already said this by the way) is a trigger that reads the bullets from the gun. You set a number of paint balls to destroy something basically. That's it. Other then that, you get the gun. The only other things you get are stickers.

If you wanted to, I'm sure you could have self made this trigger as well as the gun. Although, I'm no engineer to figure it out.

What about Dryden's posts? The thing is that you just look over any posts with real merit, skip them and only respond to the ones that don't tackle your argument.
Your right, the blindness of fanboys is amazing, but so is that of the haters.

But no one is going to change your mind when you have your mind set on changing the world on this matter.

What Dryden and  Kasz216 are debating has nothing to do with my issues with LBP, which are to do with the moderation of levels so they can sell it to us instead, in a game which promotes creative freedom.  MM outright lied about allowing us to use copyrighted IPs (which is legally allowed since it is classed as parody...like comedians do as an example) right up until day of release, up to that point no beta level was deleted, they demod IP theme levels at gameshows, and even there official website was promoting a level they had in fact moderated.

Kasz216 is presenting an argument about limitation on abilties and tools to create with, which Dryden is replying to.

I'm not overlooking those posts, they just have nothing to do with the subject I highlight flaws with.

Oh, I thought we were all talking about the same thing....lol Sorry.

I don't know anything about that matter, so I can't comment. I'm not one for legal stuff, and I don't know if Sony pressured MM into it due to fear of lawsuits or complaints or what. Maybe after some companies complained Sony feared losing relations with a publisher so had them taken off. Idk, like I said, I don't know how much of the legal world works and I won't claim to. lol

@ kasz: Plenty of levels around without any kind of "trigger" and they are a joy to play. Point invalid :)

Besides, they've just created something new and offered it to the players.

It's not as if they withheld certain parts of the game and then offered it as download (unlike what some other games are doing somewhat).

It's like having a lousy story and then bringing out additional story parts in an RPG just for it to make sense.  this isn't the case with this expansion.

new levels, new prizes, new trophies and an additional tool to create new levels with.  It's like an expansion pack.

Consider an expansion pack for any C&C game.  They come out quite a while after the game, they add new units, and they then withhold players who do not buy it from being able to enjoy them.

LBP expansion = new game mechanics given, everyone can play them even though they haven't bought them, they just can't "use" them in their own level creation, in faster bursts and of a high level.

Yet you complain?

It's never good enough for some people

To actually get the most out of creation though you basically need triggers in an editor to do anything creative.

Sure someone can make an easy level that has some enjoyment... but when your talking to people who actually care about creating... and creating is where the fun lies, not playing...

that's where the enjoyment lies.  Making new and complex ways to make levels and tackle problems.

There was no pre-made gun before, so why would there have been a pre-made trigger for gun shots? lol

If you wanted to make a gun you could also make the trigger. That's if you cared enough. Most people and I didn't so we got them pre-made. But if you want to make something you can even share it with people. I've seen many tanks, bosses, enemies, etc. shared with people through prizes for beating their levels. If you want to make an even better gun with an entirely new trigger, go for it, you can. And share it to boot.

MM gave you tools to make it yourself. That's still on the table. You can buy it, create it yourself, or just pout because you don't want it either way.
