Forums - Sony - People are never going to see LBP as a success

Our perception doesn't matter. LBP wasn't what we* OR Sony expected, but it was nowhere near a failure. It should find a home in PS3's for months to come. One more stellar game for a console with a lot of stellar games.

* By "we", I mean "you". Little Big Planet did pretty much what I figured it would.

Sony expected LBP<2.5 million... so yeah it's done just fine

The bar for LBP's commercial success was set way too high, it would have had to outsell the PS3 to meet some VGCHARTZ' members' expectations.

fixed

we don't know what are sony expectations for this game

Actually... we do. They said they think it could do as well as GT5:P... which has shipped and downloaded less than 2.5 million the time they said that

really? never knew that

I still think it can sell 2.5 million if the ps3 gets a price cut in the next few months

this is one of those games that will see a good boost when the console price is dropped (especially when some of the Nintendo fans buy the console when it has dropped in the price).

No matter how good the game does commercially (1.3 million sold in 8 weeks), or Critically (metacritic if 95) the game will never be seen as a success.  It's a shame too, since the game is so freaking awesome.

This community would rather downplay the game's success, and call the game a failure because of the hype (not the game's fault), rather than look at it on it's own merits, a new IP, which sold really well on the PS3 and has that high of a metacritic average.  We'd rather look at this game as not a success, and continue playing Generic Shooter A, Madden 2020, and Traditional turned based JRPG 1,922,498, instead of praising a new IP for doing something different and what some would call innovative.

So I am never going to defend the game again, and neither should you

It's a success commercially, and critically, and that's all that matters.

Aaaah, he brings the cat back! and continues to "defend" LBP.

I started out as a mild "hater" of LBP cause I bought the game, didn't fall in love with it right away, and you, with your "LBP will be Huge", and others, were such a pain with hyping LBP that I did feel sales weren't up to expectations. But now, I am really into the game and sales are doing fine (and should continue to do so), so you will get no more hate (at least for LBP) from me.

Yeah... that was back in may too. So I wonder if he means lifetime sales of each game or he expects LBP to sell more than what GT5P sold when he said that. Either way LBP should reach GT5P's numbers.

it's not a wish, it's reality...my syster is dying to play this game she would have got the PS3 if it wasn't for me putting the cash down to get it my self, and she's owned nothing but nintendo consoles, and she's not the only person I've seen, there's others.

hell yeah, give meh more Wii music, synthesised music FTW!!!

well there was a lot of BS spoke on both sides the the fanboy lines. personally i thought LBP would sell in the 2-3 M range and after seeing the initial sales that looks to be a half way decent predicition.

regardless, LBP is an amazing game and worth ever penny of the $323 i spent on a ps3 and $60 i spent on the game if you ask me. the other games i want to play are just the icing on the cake.
