Forums - Sony - Sony Says There Are No Plans for Further PlayStation

Sony wont die for better or worse. And I dont think thats the issue here.

The real question is if Sony will ever be able to regain their dominance in the gaming market. With the PS3 it is a definite no. If a PS4 comes out in the future it would give them another chance. The question of course remains, when will the next PS4 be released?

Id say 5 years from now. Right before Christmas 2013. That gives them plenty time for development.

lol You're just showing yourselves up to be fanboys saying you would give up gaming, Sony would most likely be releasing its 1st party games on the next Microsoft system if they did not make a PS4, so having an Xbox "720" would be exactly like having a PS4 ....

If Microsoft left the console race and gave Sony its first party titles then I would buy whatever console Sony had out ... no bitterness here ...

Exactly.
Excellent post Seece!

Same thing for me... oh... wait PSFanboys...

... I already own a PS3.

I would do the same as bolded.

Besides, we were both refering to console gaming, not gaming in general.

Another besides, no PS4 yet does not count out PS3 slim...I wonder if David Reeves was asked about that after holiday season what the answer would be...

I think it's a good news (even if I doubt it's true).

Sony out of the hardware gaming market = Good for everyone.

One hardware for Hardcore.
One hardware for Casuals.

Microsoft and Nintendo.

Best deal.

The new SCE:
Game publisher.
Game developer.
The Sega way.

Since when lack of competition and almost complet monopol were good for consumers ?

Do you think that if x360 was only console on the market we would ever see a price drop to 200$ ?

It'd cost more money to drop PS3 ana start PS4, so no.

There's actually a small chance that this statement is very significant. Probably not, but it might. Console makers have always started work on their next console waaaay before anyone ever hears of them (Nintendo and Microsoft definitely have), and if Sony still hasn't, then they future of the entire Playstation brand is in question.

Now this guy is probably just either misinformed, or intentionally denying everything so at to not hurt PS3 sales. Didn't Reggie say there were no plans for a new model of the DS only a week before the Lite was announced?

However, if he's right and Sony is seriously going ahead with the unrealistic 10 year plan, then something drastic might happen. The PS3 is simply not going to be viable on the market for more than three years tops. As much as some people are hyping the Cell and Blu-ray, they're not wonderful enough to change the way in which the market works. Designing a new console takes a lot of time and money, and if there's no PS4 in development when PS3 sales start dying out (as they inevitably will), then there might never be one.

I guess "promoting" Kutaragi away from the Playstation division makes this a bit more likely, but still doesn't confirm anything. Probably nothing to be worried about. This guy being wrong/lying is much more likely than Sony being stupid enough not to be working on their next console.

Sony out of the market = Good for everyone.
And I mean it.

Look at the war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray... good thing there is (at last) a winner (Blu-Ray).
As long as there is no clear winner, the mass market will never go on and adopt the new tech.

Now that there is only ONE HD MEDIUM for movies:

- Consumers buy Blu-Ray without fear.
- Blu-Ray sales are growing fast.
- Studios releases more movies on Blu-Ray
- The cycles goes on.

The same thing apply to gaming:
But...
There is no clear winner in the HD GAMING war.
People, instead of jumpin in, are waiting... and this hurts the gaming evolution.

Less sales, less devs profits, less ground-breakin barriers, less risks taken, more static evolution of the interactive entertainment.
One medium, Good for everyone.

Who cares if THE HD console stay at 400$ the whole generation.
People wants to invest in something that will last.
And for now, nobody knows where the HD gaming is going. Uncertain territories... no investments.

We need a winner as soon as possible.
For gamers... and for developers.

so...would it have been good for the marlet if Nintendo had pulled out of the console business with the gamecube? or MS with the origional Xbox?

sony says no such thing.... very misleading title.

When you compare Nintendo's move from Gamecube to WII to Sony's move from ps3 to ps4 in terms of sales success you have to consider two more factors.

1) Gamecube althought didn't sell very well but overall was profitable for Nintendo

2) Nintendo despite Gamecube low sales had at the same time Gameboy Advance that sold huge numbers of hardware and software keeping the company profitable.

At this time the only factor that keeps Sony in videogames business as impossible as it may sound is psp.
