I have discovered a new explanation for the Wii's success, and it arises from last gen's software sales. More specifically, the top five best selling games last gen. They are, incidentally, all on PS2.

1) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

2) Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

3) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

4) Grand Theft Auto III

5) Gran Turismo 4

Do you notice a pattern? I'll bold it for you.

That's right. They all start with Gran. And we all know that the Wii appeals to Grandmas, so it is obvious that the Wii should win this gen.

It makes perfect sense.

If you look at the top games this Gen you will see a trend as well.

Nice pattern...

Grandmas are not long for this world. Once they're gone, Wii sales will plummet!

But then NEW grandmas will come, it's a vicious cycle!

Although the original post is not serious, there is a pattern there that needs to be pointed out ... Most of the biggest games of the last generation were one of the biggest games of the previous generation, and have been pushed heavily to become some of the biggest games of this generation.

Back before the Gamecube launched Myiamoto talked about how the industry was pushing sequels too heavily, and many people used his words against Nintendo whenever they announced the sequel to a game. The truth is the industry has been focused on producing a bigger and better experience to the same people for over a decade, and this constant preaching to the converted has alienated them from a large portion of the industry. It was only a matter of time before someone switched gears and reached out to the silent majority ...
