Forums - Gaming - Wii is harder and easier to develop for...

Every gen it gets worse. With greater advances in console technology, advances in ease of programming does not catch up. This could be seen during the launch of the PS3, but now they've gotten better, but still you get my point. Now the Wii, the Wii isn't a fancy-pants HD console with high-end graphics and an ultra-advanced CPU, hypothetically making it easier to develop for. Then again, whith multiplat releases being more and more common, porting a 360 and PS3 game to the Wii can be difficult, with a big technical hurdle to leap in order to keep the graphics "current". Has Nintendo actually hurt itself in development ease by being too simple to develop for? (Yes I know that was a confusing question)

Its outselling everything out there, has a decent game library

Dont think ease of development is even a concern.

They generally port the Ps2 version and add functionally, like waggle ect, Making it a pretty easy ride.

If there is not Ps2 version they sometimes make a version for the wii, then port that version over to the PsP and DS, saving on development costs.

I get this info from, once again, my experiences as a freelance game tester, which is not at all as cool as it sounds.

This all depends on the developer and the game, but hey, now you know, And Knowing is half the Battle....

That's one helluva fancy way of saying that you rent games.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

The problem is not that it is hard to develop a Wii game, it is that developers treat Wii like a red headed stepchild. In most cases they don't even try to put out good quality. The development problem is actually more of a focus problem. They don't even begin to focus on the Wii's graphics, and release games that don't even qualify for last gen's graphics. They know the Wii sells for controls, so why bother making it look good? Then on top of that, the biggest area of fail is that developers do not focus on the reason the wii is popular : creative use of NEXT GEN CONTROLLERS to immerse players in the game.

Games should be built around the control scheme to be successful. Too often controls feel tacked on and just don't work. or they just use waggle and don't spend time giving you a next gen experience.

If you put effort in maximizing graphics to at least beyond PS2 level, and immerse people in the game with amazing controls then you have a heads up on 95% of the competition.

, and maximize the Wii's graphics instead of making them unacceptable even for last gens weakest console, the PS2.

I always thought of it as a way for the Wii to get it's own special version of the game.
