OK. There is no way, even with die shrinks, that MS can sell a version of the 360 (with more performance and features than the Wii even in the core model) at less than the Wii's price. If they did, Nintendo would drop the price to match them and must still then maker a larger profit on the $199 Wii than Microsoft would do on a $199 360.

How many times do people need to say this? Nintendo will not lower the price of the Wii until it stops selling out, no matter how low the PS3 or 360 go. It makes no sense.

I didn't mean they would lower it, I meant that Microsoft cannot afford to make this price drop even with the 65nm process. because if they could Nintendo must be making ridiculous amounts on the Wii. There's rumours of a 45nm shrink though.

Core - $279.99
Premium - $349.99
Elite - $449.99

September
Halo 3-60 Special Edition - $399.99

October/November
Core - discontinued
Premium (new chipset) - $299.99
Elite (new chipset) - $399.99

It takes Microsoft 2 years to drop the price and then they do two price drops in 2 months?  Doesn't seem very likely.  Bottom line is that Microsoft knows the 360 is not a Wii.  They are content with mopping the floor with the PS3 this generation.

Yes, it's taken them 20 months to introduce their first reduction.  But I believe that they WILL phase out the Core unit and will probably have to reduce the Premium unit to be inline with the cost of the Core.

MS aren't exactly mopping the floor with the PS3, yet.  PS3 sales have been better in all regions over the last 2-3 weeks and the PS3 is selling more by far Worldwide.  MS need to get a hold of the European market and unforuntately have lost out in Japan already.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

MS is not going to do two price drops withing three months.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Maybe it's just me......

But I think the core will, and should stay.

There are always going to be people that don't feel like they want/need the HDD to start out with. Your always going to have the few people that are just wanting an X360 + 2 or 3 games. For that kind of solution, the core fits the bill.

IMO, the core still fits MS's strategy - get the X360 to $199 ASAP. If a family wants a X360 for their kids for Blue Dragon, or Screen it, or Viva Pinata/Animals, or anything else, the core is still their best bet. An HDMI-less core would offset the fact that the other components aren't much more expinsive (a prem costs MS maybe $40).

Now, I *would* advocate the core being dropped if MS dropped the premium pricing to $249....Which is certainly do-able later this year. Not like they have the brains to do it though.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Apparently.

i'm pretty sure they could do a second price drop in the next 6 months.... like have said many times we will all know better after LGC and TGS

65nm Core at 199 = I buy.

There wouldnt be any reason not to at that point. Overheating fixed, massive library and a price that doesnt slay me. Im in if this happens. Then Ill just wait on the HD's to drop in price and pick up one. and Ill be gtg.

That's precisely what I was thinking. I don't know what geniuses are running the sho, but their dropping the ball big time. They could be doing way better right now if they only did a few things different.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

It will be really funny when a lot of the biggest new games say, "Hard drive only" and MS is still price-gouging people for hard drives. I mean $100 for a 20 gig HD? What the hell. The 120 isn't much better at $179. But MS is about choices I guess, choosing how to screw yourself the least.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
