Forums - Sales - Core 360 to be re-introduced at 199?

I love how it's almost always people who don't own a 360 or don't like MS / Xbox who want the Core to be killed off. It's even better in a thread where multiple people say they would buy the Core at the $199 price.

"I mean $100 for a 20 gig HD? What the hell. The 120 isn't much better at $179. But MS is about choices I guess, choosing how to screw yourself the least."

Welcome to the internet, let me give you a quick tour.
www.ebay.com:
20GB for $40-50
120GB for $100

"I don't even know how the 360 owners can even handle having anything under 100gb's, XBL is massive and has so many great things to download, the wii can get away without an HDD but the 360 is nothing without XBL. they have some demo's that are over a GB, plus you can Download HD movies which are over 5gb's."

And as more Premium buyers upgrade to 120GB, more used 20GB HDDs will become available to those who buy the Core.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

It will be really funny when a lot of the biggest new games say, "Hard drive only" and MS is still price-gouging people for hard drives. I mean $100 for a 20 gig HD? What the hell. The 120 isn't much better at $179. But MS is about choices I guess, choosing how to screw yourself the least.

What big upcoming games are confirmed to require the HDD again? Oh that's right, it's all just FUD.

Definitly looks like Core is here to stay at a ever lower price.

You all know that you cant even get onto Xbox live without a HDD or some sort of memory so a core is worthless at initial purchase.

So a 360 is "worthless" without Xbox Live?

OK. There is no way, even with die shrinks, that MS can sell a version of the 360 (with more performance and features than the Wii even in the core model) at less than the Wii's price. If they did, Nintendo would drop the price to match them and must still then maker a larger profit on the $199 Wii than Microsoft would do on a $199 360.

How many times do people need to say this? Nintendo will not lower the price of the Wii until it stops selling out, no matter how low the PS3 or 360 go. It makes no sense.

I didn't mean they would lower it, I meant that Microsoft cannot afford to make this price drop even with the 65nm process. because if they could Nintendo must be making ridiculous amounts on the Wii. There's rumours of a 45nm shrink though.

The original guesstimate for manufacturing cost for the wii was well under 150 dollars per console.  Figure they will attain efficiencies in production by now they may be approaching 100 bucks or less per system....

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Man 360 without Live is like a Wii without ANY first party games. Stop being so defensive. Most people are definitely going to want a HD with their 360, and most are damn sure going to want to use live. Why the hell wouldnt you unless your a casual. And exactly how many casuals are out there eating up those 360's?

Its pretty self explanatory.

According to GotFrag it was 158 USD. So yes they could mostpossible be down to atleast 120-130 USD.  (Just that tools should be paid of after this year should lower the price significant.

hum I'm not a casual, I love the live and I haven't had a gold membership for at least 6 month... so no it's not really needed.... and even when I had a gold I didn't really used it.... so it's absolutely not needed and even less for casual.... it's a sweet option not a requirement to enjoy the system.... and trust me over all there are more casual thanhardcore gamer.... even on XB... now i'll get he live back probably for Halo 3 until then I'm good without it....

No, it's really not self explanatory. I'm hardly a casual and I didn't have Live for the first 9 months or so after buying my 360. That didn't stop me from playing Gears of War, Oblivion, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Crackdown, etc.

If only I had known my 360 was "worthless" without Live, maybe I wouldn't have wasted my time playing it for all those months...

Some of you should start realising that others might not have the same tastes as you and might not see much use for a harddrive. Guitar Hero anyone? Works fine without a HD and XBL.

I think a cheap (
