Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Take Two: We just can't ignore the Wii's install base. We just can't.

So would that be the reason why RE5 is being lead platform developed for the Wii, or is it not because Capcom is somehow averse to taking easy money?

Umbrella Chronicles is a horrible example simply because it is practically the sole exception for Wii soft sales trends. Why not mention Manhunt 2?

Feel free to make a big note of RE4 remake and Red Steel, because until/unless Conduit and Madworld become confirmed million sellers, that's about it for strong selling games in the M demographic for the Wii.

Take all the Nintendo published titles away from the top selling list on the platform and you're not left with an even half decent list of games.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
Guitar Hero III
Carnival Games
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Lego Star Wars
RE4 Wii Edition
Game Party
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
My Sims
RE Umbrella Chronicles
High School Musical: Sing It
Guitar Hero World Tour
Smarty Pants
Red Steel
Deca Sports
Lego Indiana Jones
The Simpsons Game

The list doesn't exactly take a turn for the better once you continue to dip into the sub platinum selling games either.

Would GTA sell on the Wii? Why not? Even Dad wouldn't mind playing a little GTA when the kids are asleep. Would it sell as well as it would for the 360, PS3 or PC? Not even close.

Take Two would better spend their efforts on something more friendly to the Wii user base if they're mainly interested in chasing big sales figures.

exactly. i was reasearching this point but you beat me to posting it. one exception in a whole bunch of third party failures is no reason to celebrate.

its going to flop because the user base isn't interested in anything non-nintendo related. sure, the user base is huge. but they're made up almost entirely of casual gamers who only care for party games.

gta is not a party game and it's not nintendo related in any way.

therefore gta on wii is going to flop.

It's so easy to prove you wrong. Case in point: Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. Capcom expected to sell 620k copies of the game, it sold more than twice than that.

The game also covers all of your other criticisms:

1) It's not a Nintendo game.
2) It's not a party game.
3) It's part of a popular franchise, just like GTA.
4) It's M-rated, just like GTA.

Your turn.

exactly! and gta is even more popular then the resident evil franchise.. so in theory gta wii makes all the sense in the world...unfortunately ego gets in the way most of the times.. fact is the more time passes the more they cant ingnore the wii (or rather their investors).. they are getting cornered and its quite fun to watch them bitch about it hehe

"sole exception" my ass. That's just "sole game that meets my standards which I made up just to make the Wii look bad".

I mean calling Guitar Hero failures? What bull.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

guitar hero is a party game.

Buisness wise that is the single biggest mistake these publishers are doing..using specific target demographics for their games rather than target the widest possible demographic like nintendo.. no man the truth is another..nintendo fucked them all..and they all know how difficult it is to compete with them when they are in top form..they wanted wii wo fail and its gonna turn into their worst nightmare if they don't.....

1. build a good reputation and fan base on wii with quality efforts and then...

2. try to compete with nintendo with your best talent not with your noob teams.. most of the third party buisness strategies for wii have been pathetic... lets see if they learned the lesson or need more of a finantial kick up the arse..

perfect analisis! thats exactly the excuse third parties have been using.. turn nintendo's strength against them because they are too tough a company to compete with..nintendo is the very last company third parties wanna see succeed..

too bad for them then that they have no choice other then to support them now hehe

hmmm, yes they can, all they have to do is look the other way, it's realy as simply as that so common take two you can do it, just look the other way and all your problems will go away :D

Regardless of howver many million it would sell on the Wii it, would most certainly be a million seller. People can argue that it wouldn't sell as much as it did on the PS3 or the 360 but no one can argue that it would bring in a lot of revenue for Rockstar. Rockstar needs money. Hmmm. *scratches head* What to do?

GTA wouldn't sell on Wii?... it sure could sell on PS2 and this gen alot of people who owned a PS2 have bought a Wii, so the people are still the same.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

If Umbrella Chronicles was the sole exception (it's not), it would be because it's the only third party game on the Wii with a big franchise's name attached and wasn't completely terrible.

Guitar Hero III sells incredibly well on the Wii and is only trailing the 360 version by a hair. Rock Band didn't sell nearly as much. Why? Probably because the Wii version of the first one was horribly delayed and missing tons of major features the HD one. Guitar Hero 3 had all the same features as the HD versions minus DLC, and World Tour has that and more and it's outselling the 360 version already.

People aren't going to buy cheap stripped down versions of titles when they've got the alternative to buy the true version. It's why a lot of handheld versions of big games don't sell well, because unless there is something to suggest otherwise, people assume it's a cheap hack job of the console version.

Sonic and the Secret Rings outsold Sonic 06' on both HD consoles combined. And you can't simply ignore the Guitar Hero series with some "oh it's a party game excuse". They're both big franchise names and they weren't grossly inferior to the HD versions of the games.

And as for Manhunt 2, what about it? It's an inferior sequel to obscure controversial title that no one cared about whose only major selling point was taken away by the ESRB, delayed, and not advertised. And it sold almost as much on the Wii as it did on the PS2. The Wii version was both the most censored version, and the most expensive, yet it also grossly outsold the PSP (A platform with TWO former Exclusive GTA titles) version despite the smaller install base.

And as someone who actually PLAYED and BEATEN Manhunt 2, I say it didn't deserve to sell. The Wii specific controls are mostly poor. The game is only about 8 hours long with no replay value, yet it feels like they only had three hours worth of content they had to stretch. It has a terrible storyline that desperately tries to elevate the game above "just go kill shit". (Something the first Manhunt actually embraced) And half-way through the game it transforms from a mediocre stealth game, to a lousy third person shooter.

I sincerely hope that Take-Two are actually using Bully as an example of their main title stuff not doing well on the Wii and not Manhunt 2.
