Possibly, but without going through the entire list of sites and eliminating the ones that have questionable reviews we'll never really know for sure*.

*Although 1UP does definitely seem to be harder on Wii games in general.  But can they be accused of hating the Wii?  I've noticed some of their Wii review scores are higher than the site's average so it's not like an across the board thing just the majority.  They seem to be especially hard on below average titles.

Well that's ridiculous Legend. You found 3 sites who's scores were all grossly off-balance, vs HS's original post which was about the major reviewers in the game industry.

It's not ridiculous at all... If we start removing these minor sites I mentioned with very dubious scoring it would slowly begin to lower the site's average for Wii games and bring the sites HappySquirrel mentioned more in line with the Gameranking's Site average for the Wii.

For example lets look at Game Vortex:

GameScoreGameRanking's Avg
Avatar: The Last Airbender95%63.7%
Call of Duty 396%69.2%
Kororinpa: Marble Mania98%71.1%
Metal Slug Anthlogy95%73.7%
Spider-Man 380%56.9%
Surf's Up85%67.5%
SSX Blur95%74.1%

Can they be trusted as a review site?

The problem with what you're saying is you want to weight the effect of a site like Game Vortex the same as IGN or 1Up. But does game vortex do anything near the volume of traffic that IGN or 1Up gets?

There are definitely sites with a Bias, that much is clear. But the major sites either seem to be fair on the Wii or varying degrees of bias'd against it according to the numbers. Any major review site is a fair addition, but "average joe's game review emporium" isn't very telling when compared to the big sites.

That's why the average exists - to smooth out anomalies. The sample size here is huge, so it's going to be a pretty accurate picture.

Just use the known sites that have been doing it for a long time, not some hippei in some newspaper.

They don't have as much traffic as IGN or 1Up but their score has the same weight on gamerankings.

So.... considering that the sites you posted also gave rather high scores to PS3 & 360 games, it lowers the average score of PS3 & 360 games, making many of the big reviewers higher than the average review. It suddenly makes them simply biased towards the "hardcore" systems.

PS3 games

Armored Core 4
     95%    68.6%
Call of Duty 3      97%
   81%
Full Auto 2: Battlelines
     85%   66.9%
Genji: Day of Blades
     70%
   58.1%
Mobile Suite Gundam: Crossfire      67%
   37.4%
Need for Speed Carbon
     95%
   74.8%
Spiderman 3
     81%
   65.4%
Tony Hawk's Project 8
     96%
   77.8%

I'm too lazy to list 360 games but there's a number of 20%+ and even some 30%+ differences in their rating and the average rating.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

gamespot is biased...who made those numbers everybody knows they take 360 over ps3 anytime.

Also gametrailers isnt in that list cuz its the best review site!!!

That's because all multiplatforms games are made on the 360 and then ported to PS3... so yeah the 360 has a slight advantage.

The games are basically tailored for the 360 and then just thrown on the PS3.

Anyways I won't argue anymore because I'm probably annoying some people and I'm getting tired anyways :) I guess the only thing a person can really do is go to a site they trust most and use it's reviews.

Except that, as I've already said, the sample size is big enough that no single publication has a lot of weight. GR has over 2000 Wii reviews alone. A single review is only going to comprise .05% of the average.

I think a lot more research needs to be done before concluding those sites are biased against the Wii. I mean if they're all negative which sites are on the opposite end of the spectrum and are they throwing the Wii numbers out?

I looked at some more sites and found:

Site

Xbox 360PS3Wii
Game Vortex9.6%8.9%14.9%
PGNx Media11.1%11.8%

14.5%

Gaming Trend

5.5%

8.0%

8.6%

How did I pick those 3? I decided to look at a Spider-Man 3 (Wii) and see if anyone gave it high marks. PGNx Media gave it a 85%, Game Vortex gave it a 80%, and GamingTrend gave it a 83%. Now the ones in the original list that seem biased against the Wii gave it scores in the 40-60% range (except 1up which did give it a pretty bad 35%). So does that mean that these sites I listed are biased for the Wii or the other sites are biased against the Wii?

Yes, thos sites are biased towards the Wii -- or, if you'd prefer, biased against PS3 and 360.
