Forums - Nintendo - It's time for third parties to make Wii their lead platform

"Wii sales still suck for thirdparty games that are not in the party game genre"

That is such a lie. A few million selling party games only proves those sold a million. It does not mean sales for other versions suck. And a core game on the Wii does not have to sell a million to have good sales. That applies to HD systems.

As for Call of Duty WaW, that doesn't prove it's not worth it to make the Wii the main development system. That game didn't cost that much in the first place, since it had a preexisting engine. And Wii version sales are still profit, no matter the ratio, so that's a bullshit point.

People need to realsie that this gen is completley different from previous gens.

The quality ( graphical capabilities , 7.1 audio ) of a game isn't the most important selling point when it comes to a Wii game , the Wii demographic is more focused on the apeal of having fun with the game ( of course the quality of the game may be a factor)

For example the Conduit ; the game that is supposed to the pinnnacle of Wii graphics will struggle to break a million copies if it even reaches that , yes having a good quality Wii game (from a graphics perspective ) is a good thing but it's not neccaserily what the demographic wants.

Mr Wii Demographic could walk into the shop and pick up A. The amazingly beautiful graphical game for the Wii with 5 hours gameplay (quality >quantity remeber :) or B. the pretty crappy looking party game with 150 modes which promises 100+ hours of intense gameplay . The kind of demographic the Wii apeals to will probably opt for the fun or social aspect of a game , graphics generaly won't give you that.

THen you gotta ask the question , "what would be the benefit of high end graphics on low end hardware ?" that would be like optimising the PS2 to push it past God Of War 2 . Yes the Wii is more powerful than the PS2 but how much effort would it require for there to be a noticable diffeence ?. How many Wii games have sold on their graphical abilities if any ?.

Idealy lead development would be on the best selling console but then you'd neglect one market and be offering a selling point that won't neccerily apeal to the new demographic , it wouldn't even be that strong of a selling point.

Oh Million, any game that doesn't sell on any platform and in the cases we are talking about didn't sell because the game didn't sell the console.

If the Conduit did sell over a million copies and bla, the reasons would be one of two, either the audience existed or the game was so good (technical, business and marketing wise) the audience was created on that platform.

There is no cash cow, dev's who copy do that because they think along the lines you were expressing as reality, truth is they have to create their own demography, Nintendo created their own and still do, which is the reason dev's complained about Nintendos quality back in January 2008 being too high. These guys don't know how to make games, they just know how to make what they know is a game.... =P Again because they think that everyone fits in a certain compartment, can't blame them, most businessmen and programmers seem to think like that but not all, look at Nintendo, they don't think like that.

it will never happen, cause PS360 (+PC) will always sell more third parties software than on Wii. That's sad but it's the price to pay for laucnhing a GC+, as succesfull it can be.

Actually, the 360 would be better called an XBox+, or the PS3 a better PS2. The Wii changes the game (New Generation) while Sony and Microsoft make the same product with high end graphics (Next Generation).

Wii sells 3rd party software and there is no doubt about it, anyone who thinks otherwise should check out the charts

. We dont see frontloaded 3rd party games titles because they are usually a gimped (or PS2like) version of its HD twins, and they have little or no hype behind it. Games like Conduit, MH III will see large sales on the Wii in first weeks because they are big exclusive titles on the Platform, and they will have good legs like any other wii games.

You're the one who is wrong... the 360 and PS3 are significantly changed where as the Wii has no significant changes outside it's Wiimote.  You may think that the Wii "changes the game" but the reality is that the Wii just has a diffrent and user friendlier input device.  I would go on a limb and say it wasn't for E306 the Wii would have floundered... because of people getting to try the actual thing long before release it build up this giant bubble of expectation and push out of the gaming crowd and into the mainstream.  Nintendo capitalized on this with some extreamly smooth moves that added value to their product in the eyes of non-gamers.  The real test is to see if they can get those people to switch over to being gamers.  That way 3rd party titles that are more standard style gameplay will sell on the system.

The same arguments that were used against the Wii after it launched. It's more bullshit now than it was then.

eh no they aren't. You seem to have a NRDF or Nintendo Reality Distortion Field in action. Please deactivate. Wii games cost money to develop as well. Crappy PS2 ports cost less, good Wii games cost more. I am willing to bet that a Nintendo Wii game (at least one of the good ones not cheap Wii Music) costs as much as most HD games to develop.
In other words you get what you pay for.

I didn't claim it was 100% profit. But it seemed you were more interested in making smartass comments than properly reading what I wrote.
