I would go on a limb and say it wasn't for E306 the Wii would have floundered... because of people getting to try the actual thing long before release it build up this giant bubble of expectation and push out of the gaming crowd and into the mainstream. Nintendo capitalized on this with some extreamly smooth moves that added value to their product in the eyes of non-gamers. The real test is to see if they can get those people to switch over to being gamers. That way 3rd party titles that are more standard style gameplay will sell on the system. |
The same arguments that were used against the Wii after it launched. It's more bullshit now than it was then.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
