Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Playstation network now better than the Xbox live?

Xbox Live is better because it provides more quality than PSN. PSN is still developing and eventually it will be on the same level as XBL. Xbox Live may be $50 a year, but its worth your money because of what it can provide.

I wouldn't go around saying Home makes it better yet considering the steaming pile of vomit Home is at the moment.

Actually, I'm sorry, calling it a steaming pile of vomit is wrong of me and I apologize. That implies that Home is something. Home is this sterile lifelss thing that has nothing other than lines for really bad flash games you still have to download and microtransactions nobody actually wants.

and i got banned for saying he was anti ps3....*sigh*.

I'm seconds away from firing up my PS3, but no. Live is still better. Is it worth $50 a year? That's your opinion. Here are the bullet points:

-Live has a visual representation of the people on your friends list. PSN just has a list of names. (and don't say Home's avatars. I have NEVER seen anyone on my friends list in Home......and unlike a lot of people, I enjoy Home a lot!)
-Live lets you see what your friends online are doing AND what your friends offline have done (example: Elgefe02 last seen playing Gears of War 2 seven hours ago....)
-Live lets you see and compare your friends entire game library and which games they have achievements in AND which achievements they've earned. PSN only lets you see Trophy supported games
-Live has cross game chatting (wich I've never used)
-Live has Netflix wich I swear by!! It is amazing to me!
-Live is connected to Xbox.com and Xbox Live Nation.com. If you have a computer and a gamertag, you can see the progress of and message an XBox 360 player.
-For me at least, using the exact same internet service provider, PSN games lag more and drop off more than the 360 counter part(s). (Super Street Fighter 2 is my only experience, although I will try COD4 later tonight)
-Live has scheduled Lady's nights, kid/family nights, co-op nights, and other multiplayer nights
-Live still has much more downloadable content than the PS3 (downloadable games, wallpapers, music videos, tv shows, movies, game add ons, demos, etc)
-Live's gamer profiles are WAY more in depth than the PSN's options
-ALL XBL games have leaderboards. I've spent a good amount of time competing against a friend high score without them even knowing it.
-you can see your FRIEND'S friends too. Madskillz is friends with Elgefe, but not me!? That dirty sunnovabits!!

In it's favor, the PS3's web browser is pretty damned good. I use it all the time.

Both are good, but the PSN is still a good bit behind XBL. Most of this stuff doesn't matter to a large portion of gamers. Both kick the Wii's online directly in the pussy. XBL has just been around longer, and has had time to get better.

-Wrong, you have a friends list, that includes an avatar even if not visual representation you have home for that u can invite them over to your apartament/summer house, the name, if they are available or away, what game they are playing, also, a list that players you have meet in game which games, and a link to compare your trophies.

-same for PSN, also you can check that outside your ps3 in playstation.com, if tells you what was the last time they were online too (like 3 hours ago)

-as i said you can in the psn too, you have a "compare trophies" feature that lets you compare games and trophies. it show you the game u guys have in common and game that don't have in common too. with 50% of completition.

-same on the psn, you can message game ingame thanks to the ingame XMB, and it's blazing fast! unless you are loading something.

-ps3 have blu ray player and a playstation store, not only that u can stream netflix to your psn and any file. you can install linux if you want to have PC - like experience.

- PSN have merged with playstation.com a while ago anything you seen in the Friends Tab XMB u can see it there.

- thats not true, i play resistance 2 and lbp daily and no lag in anything, both use the PSN for it servers and have a deep integration with them.

-we have resistance thurdays, warhawk etc etc also, you can use playstation.co forums to arrange gamming session with players.

- they show the same things as today mentioned first reply.

- well resistance 2 have leaderboards, metal gear online does too.so in general shooters generally have leaderboards so?.

- friends friends like facebook? i think the its only thing XBL have PSN don't.

but all this i mentioned above is FREE. it comes with PSN.

you are paying for it.

Not even close actually.

Personally, imo FREE = better. Plus I can browse the web on my PS3 which gives it a lot of applications that people forget.
I'll say this though, I feel a lot better about paying that xbox live price after getting netflix. But when the games I want to play most (gears 2) online don't even work for me, I must say I'm very pissed because I don't play live very often.

PSN is not free.  You just don't pay an explicit price up front for it.

They get their investment back somehow...  Through some way they are making you pay for it.  No bean counter in any corporation that has shareholders would give anything away for free unless they were recovering the cost elsewhere.

Anyone who thinks is freely given away by is a delusional consumer that needs to be sent on a course understanding how the economy and corporations work.

Of course Sony has to get their investment back somehow, and I don't care if it's them filming the lion king porn in Mr. Rogers' basement if it means that no extra money comes out of my wallet. Sony is making money off of home, but that doesn't mean it's coming out of my pocket, so it's great. The fact remains that I pay $50 a year for Live when in actuality I probably spend less then a week or two worth of time playing it. The PS3 is my gaming console of choice and I do most of my gaming on it. And I play it online at no extra charge. Instead of people saying they would rather pay for PSN to be better I think Microsoft should let us game online for free and then charge us for the extras if we want it. There's no reason why I should have to pay to game online and it's the biggest rip off in gaming imo and the single reason why I've never played an MMO game that came with any extra fees (gotta love Diablo 2!). Personally, I can agree that Live has a bunch of awesome features not provided by PSN but at the same time I have never once used any. I'm a hardcore gamer (as in I play a lot of games and often) but when it comes to online play and functionality I'm very much casual. I don't join clans and if I do I don't participate in them, I have people on my friends list but I just about never play or communicate with them, I don't use home, I don't use anything extra. I get online, play until I'm bored and quite. That's it. Therefore Live serves me no other purpose but to give Microsoft my money for no damn reason. I feel like I either pay or sell my xbox because otherwise I can't fully enjoy a lot of games and unfortunately games like L4D are fun and addicting but I always feel ripped off playing them. I payed $60 for L4D and I would have gotten absolutely no enjoyment out of it without paying the additional money for Live. It's a crock. Sorry if I'm rambling but nothing pisses me off more then paying money I don't feel I should pay. Hell, I even had to buy a $100 wireless adapter for my xbox. Even the wii has wifi built in and it's not even known for it's online play like Xbox is!

But it's no more than a "gamerpic", not an  avatar.  Half of my friends are Nathan Drake.  And while it tells you what game they are playing, it doesn't tell me what games they WERE playing.

-same for PSN, also you can check that outside your ps3 in playstation.com, if tells you what was the last time they were online too (like 3 hours ago)

I was totally unaware.  Thanks!

-as i said you can in the psn too, you have a "compare trophies" feature that lets you compare games and trophies. it show you the game u guys have in common and game that don't have in common too. with 50% of completition.

Comparing trophies is cool, but when the vast majority of PS3 games don't have trophies at all........

-same on the psn, you can message game ingame thanks to the ingame XMB, and it's blazing fast! unless you are loading something.

Messaging in game, and having a voice chat supported converstation in game are two different things.  It is blazing fast, though.  Me and a guy from Britain were texting non-stop last night about Prince of Persia.

-ps3 have blu ray player and a playstation store, not only that u can stream netflix to your psn and any file. you can install linux if you want to have PC - like experience.

I have a Blu- ray player (PS3).  I have no idea how to install linux.  I guess I'm just dim.

- PSN have merged with playstation.com a while ago anything you seen in the Friends Tab XMB u can see it there.

I didn't know about playstation.com.  Still, the info you get from the xmb is not as detailed as what you get from the 360's friends list or xbox.com.  I'll try it later though.  I gotta leave for work in 40 minutes!

- thats not true, i play resistance 2 and lbp daily and no lag in anything, both use the PSN for it servers and have a deep integration with them.

Resistance 2 and LBP aren't available for the 360.  I spoke of the only game  I've played that's available on both (Super Street Fighter HD).  I'll try Call of Duty 4 later on tonight.

-we have resistance thurdays, warhawk etc etc also, you can use playstation.co forums to arrange gamming session with players.

Once again, I was unaware.  The 360's gaming nights are advertised on xbox.com, and the Xbox 360's start up screens.  They're put together by people at Microsoft, and not a random gamer.  They even have calenders in the official Xbox Magazine that tell of the scheduled gamer nights.  "Gaming with Fame", "Lady's Night", "Developer's Night", "Professional Gamer's Night", and "Family Night" are all heavily promoted.

- they show the same things as today mentioned first reply.

Don't quite follow what you mean....

- well resistance 2 have leaderboards, metal gear online does too.so in general shooters generally have leaderboards so?.

You've named me two games.  I can name the ENTIRE 360 library.

- friends friends like facebook? i think the its only thing XBL have PSN don't.

Friends, as in "d21lewis would like to be your friend", friends list friends.

but all this i mentioned above is FREE. it comes with PSN.

And I mentioned that the value is up to the individual.  It is free.  And many of the 360's advantages don't matter to most gamers.  I have both, and I love both, but the 360's online is better.  It just does more.

you are paying for it.

Gladly!

Text type messages.  You can't chat with people while in separate games.  You can't send voice messages.

-ps3 have blu ray player and a playstation store, not only that u can stream netflix to your psn and any file. you can install linux if you want to have PC - like experience.
XBL Marketplace has more content.  Netflix is much easier to use via Xbox Live without having to use your PC as a loop hole.  Have you ever used Linux?  It really only has its uses for people who want cheap (free) software alternatives, and doing things in Linux is a pain compared to just doing them in Windows.

- PSN have merged with playstation.com a while ago anything you seen in the Friends Tab XMB u can see it there.
But you can't queue up downloads, purchase things, send messages, and the Friends tab just said when they were last on, not what they were last seen doing.

- thats not true, i play resistance 2 and lbp daily and no lag in anything, both use the PSN for it servers and have a deep integration with them.
Try playing a multi-plat game.  Sony takes care of their exclusives, but not multi-plats which are forced to host themselves.  XBL takes care of the Third Party Devs so games like CoD4 don't lag like they do on PSN.

-we have resistance thurdays, warhawk etc etc also, you can use playstation.co forums to arrange gamming session with players.

8 person party able to jump from any game, to anywhere, together, with dedicated voice chat that continues during all loading times, and even if party members are in different games.

but all this i mentioned above is FREE. it comes with PSN.

you are paying for it.

EDIT:  Mr. d21lewis beat me to the punch.

Due to Home I can't use my PS3 when I want to anymore...

My girlfriend appears to be addicted to Home already! LOL

I guess I need a second PS3 soon.
