some guy told me to make my own thread so i guess i am now.

before i go any furthur, im gonna fasten my flame vest thing or whatever in the hell you guys call it because everyone is going to think im dumb for saying this or whatever, so we have that. and secondly, i think voting for game of the year is a cool and fun thing to do, but i guess there are just some inherent problems in the whole process. its comparable to how games lose steam in their sales after they get released. would anybody honestly consider the new prince of persia game of the year? out of anything that has come out in the whole year, could prince of persia really be the best thing to come out all year? in the game of the year voting thread, a bunch of people considered games like this and left 4 dead as OVERALL GAME OF THE YEAR. i mean, would these two games be talked about at all if they had come out in march or april? i just hate how things like this factor into the equation of game of the year. its lke saying RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 FOR OVERALL GAME OF THE YEAR! i guarantee if rsv2 came out last week, that a poop load of people would be nominating it for overall game of the year.

I think it is a flame shield that your are thinking of.

You are entitled to your opinion of GOTYs. It isn't a flawless procedure, but it is okay as it is just a fun thing to do. GOTY usually is picking the most important game or what you liked best.

The more recent, the better you can remember it and not have things fade away. But early year releases are considered for GOTY often, such as RE4 I believe.

Considering Valve games from the last century are still being widely played and talked about/put on critics top games lists I certainly do think had Left 4 dead been released earlier in the year it'd still be a front runner for game of the year.

i know what you mean still, it is kinda scary how the results would have turned out if gta4 came out 2moz. anyway at least people are still remembering games like mgs4

i understand what you are saying... you dont like how recent releases scew the vote for GOTY... this could be solved by holding the vote in january and limiting entry to games released october 07 september 08 doing this would remove most of the effects of this
