Forums - Microsoft - Wii Controller on the 360?

Here is a link to a story on someone who has mad the Wii controller and Nunchuk work on the 360...

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14169/New-Mod-Lets-You-Connect-Wii-Controllers-on-Xbox-360/

It will be a matter of time before this is productized by someone so everyone can do it.  I would think they could do the same on the PS3.

I am not sure what you mean by "productized". If you mean 'produced in such a way that it is easy to get working on their 360s' then I would agree. If you mean 'used towards the production of some sort of game' then I would say almost certainly not.

Still cool though - especially since it allows any PC peripheral to work, not just Wii controllers.

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

1) WiiFit will outsell the pokemans.
Current Status: 2009.01.10 70k till PKMN Yellow (Passed: Emerald, Crystal, FR/LG)

Wouldn't work if it was mass produced and put on the shelves, as the entry fee would still be too big for the casual gamer MS was looking to pick up with this controller.

Now I knew somebody would do something like this...but its to much stuff needed to use the WiiMote...so forget about it...

I am not 100% clear on IP and patent law, but I do believe that there might be legal problems with a company developing 360 games for the Wiimote. Aside from that it would take a lot of 360 owners doing this to make it worth while for a company to even consider making a game.

People would still pick Wii... more casual games and lower price point

There are now C# and VB.NET libraries for the Wiimote. This means that Microsoft's XNA development kit now has support for the Wiimote (via .Net) so it's not surprising to see videos like the first one in this thread.

What's also really exciting is because of the C# and VB.Net libraries it's possible to do a lot more outside of just videogames with the Wiimote. For example you could use one to control a remote controlled car, robot, etc, the possibilites are endless for people that are creative.

OMG, now every casual gamer will learn to program a custom wiimote driver on their pc and interface it with an emulater! Wii is screwed!

No seriously, it looks like they mapped certain motions to buttons and turned the wiimote into a glorified analog stick. I can't see it being anywhere near as intuitive as a wii game, and no game dev could legally use it in a game.

Someone just had too much time on their hands.

...I thought the wii mote was innovative.. its just a controller that moves in 3 directions and shoots as if your trying to change the channel...nintendo are liars..

Ok I have to ask, why would it be illegal for them to use a wiimote in their game?  I can't really see anyone adding support for it in a game because it's doubtful a lot of people would go out to buy a wiimote when they already own existing input devices (keyboard/mouse for PC and 360 controller for 360).

As for the libraries using it as a glorified analog stick that's not the case, just look at the WiimoteState object that returns *everything* about the Wiimote.

Some people may think it's a waste of time or ask why people bother but projects like this can be extremely fun, interesting, and rewarding
