"Do you realize that Gamerankings and Metacritic aren't empirical?

Nothing that is subjective is empirical, do not be silly."

According to the reasoning that you are using which is quite solipstic, nothing is empirical. Therefore no claim is baselss.

Nothing in art is empirical, but thanks for trying to twist my words to mean something obviously different from what I meant. There is a difference between something that can be measured and something that cannot.

I wonder if DQX could be using Crystal Tools? It supports the Wii, and SE hasnt yet announced a single game using it for the platform.

I was wondering that myself. I think it would be silly to restrict it to the Square side of games, but maybe Armor Project wants to do their own thing...

And yes people, please. More meltdowns. I want to see more metacritics cling to abritrary numbers. I want to see more bitter tears like Legend's! I want to see the constant dismissal of Japanese support! MOAR PEOPLE, MOAR!

"The more Nintendo advances, the more the HD fanboys are scared."

I would say frustrated might be a better word. Obviously after you've been to the top of the mountain in gaming in games like Gears, GTA IV, MGS 4, Bioshock, Halo 3, Fallout 3 and Oblivion you obviously don't want some little console that can't even begin to come close to replicating the wonders seen and experienced in those games to come up and become the dominant system and set gaming technology back three to four years. If that was going to happen then we should have stook with the Dreamcast for seven or eight years.

See, you just don't get the Wii. It's not some little console, and it's made by the greatest gaming company of all time. Yea, the Wii has some crap games, but it also has some great games, games that compare and beat out Gears, definitly GTAIV, Bioshock, definitly Halo 3, Fallout 3, etc.

The thing with games like you is that you think only HD games are marvoulous. Mario Galaxy was hands down the best game last year and an amazing game, better than GTA IV, Halo 3, and Bioshock. But people like you just can't appritiate it- for whatever reasons, I don't know, and I wish people like you actually appritiate a masterpiece like that.

In regards to the second paragraph, I guess you missed where I said that I expected to get a Wii when I can afford one for some of the niche rpg games, Zelda, DQ X, and Mario.

Really the Wii has games that compare and beat Gears, GTAIV, Bioshock, Halo3, and Fallout 3?  Ok I'll bite...  What third-person shooter does the Wii have that beats Gears?  What Western RPG/Shooter does the Wii have that beats Fallout 3?  Hell does the Wii even have a WRPG to begin with?  Show us the Wii FPS games that have the online support and features that Halo 3 does.  Talk about comparing apples to oranges.

As for the "best game" claim I think such claims are ridiculous.  It's like saying a movie or book was the best one of 2007.  Considering not everyone has the same tastes and we're talking about vastly different genres how can such claims even be taken seriously?  So Mario Galaxy wins hands down?  What about for people that like deep stories or online gameplay?  Does the game win hands down for that too?  It all comes down to personal preferences, not some absolute fact.

then don't complain about the rest of the games, cause although the shovelware sucks, Nintendo needed that to become #1 again. there's a whole load of "hardcore" wii games coming in 2009, so the Wii will dominate for what it should be now.

"Nothing in art is empirical, but thanks for trying to twist my words to mean something obviously different from what I meant. There is a difference between something that can be measured and something that cannot."

But if nothing in art is empirical, then why when you study literature in college, for example, is your textbook called something like Norton's Classics of Western Literature? Surely there was some kind of measure that made these works the "Classics of Western Literature" while other works that were written during the same time period that aren't in "The Canon" just didn't measure up for some reason to these works that were accepted into the group called Classics.  There must be some determining factor that results in Hamlet being regarded as the greatest play in the English language and in Shakespeare being regarded as the most significant English author.

Similarly, and unless you can come up with another measure, one would be led to believe that aggregate review scores from the respected sources in gaming journalism would be the determining factor or at least offer an indication of the classics in the gaming realm.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Do you really ant me to answer that, BTFeather

I'm an English Major, I could go on for quite a while
