Forums - Sony - What will happen if Killzone 2 bombs?

It wont 'bomb' but it wont be a huge seller....however, PS3 owners wont have many jewels to fall back on if it does fail

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

It'll prove that hardcore titles can't sell on the PS3 and all hardcore titles move to Wii while PS3 gets the Ubisoft Imagine babyz series!

Really I don't know I know I won't be buying it but I'm sure many people will, if it "flopped" Sony might get more desperate and make even better ideas like LBP 2 with a full 3D environment editor, and basically you can make your own game, from FPS, to platformer, to TPS, to action game, and all the abilities of the original LBP with co-op except add online competition as well.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

If I was the head of SCE, I would throw a fit and go attempt to buy Rare.

Expectations of any game on the PS3 seem to be high these days. These expectations are from Sony Fanboys, and from people who want the game to look like a failure, so they will make expectations for any game seem extremely high so that it can't "meet expectations", Anti-PS3 people's favorite word to make any accomplishment look lackluster.

Look at LBP. 1 million in five weeks and somehow that's horrible. In a world where games can be on the market for a year and not move a million units, a new IP sells that and it's overlooked because it didn't move 5 or 10 million units.

The same thing is going to happen with KZ2. It will be crucified no matter if it sells 100k units in one week or 1.1 million units in one week. It will apparently be "below expectations", and we should all be sad about it.

Well, I'm learning my lessons from the LBP fiasco. I'm just going to enjoy the game, and let the haters argue while I'm having fun.

Let's define below 500k WW first week as below expectations, below 200k WW first week as a bomb.

Well i think KZ2 will do just fine, nothing amazing looking at Resistance 2, if it bombs thou then nothing wont change, Sony fans will continue to claim that it will be GoW III and GT 5 that will be true system sellers for the PS3 etc. etc. Kilzone 2 wont make or break PS3, it wont even provide a big bump in hardware.

That's the useful thing about having prediction/expectation threads. One can sometimes actually prove that expectations were truly high.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

this game will only 'flop' when insane blind fanboys predict it to sell for 5 million+.

hell, any game will 'flop' when people predict it to be that high.

if people are realistic with their predictions, it won't flop. flops are only created by internet hype. because the internet overhypes things, when the product doesn't deliver their unrealistic expectations, it's defined as a flop. but that's all bullshit anyway.

But even in those threads, people don't focus on the majority of predicitons that make sense and were in line with sales and the more outlandish ones.  Like LBP, most people predicted first week sales of 500k, which it got very close to or passed depending on how you count sales, but people decided to focus on the people who said it'd sell 1.5 million week one and things like that.  No matter how close you are, or predict to actual sales, it will never be at expectations or above, it will be below, even when you can have a thread that proves your point.  Cause then the excuse is "ZOMG DA HYPE FOR THIS WAS HI, IT ZHOULD HV SOLD MOAR".  You can never win sometimes.

The same thing that always happens, a series of WAIT UNTILS will hit PS3 fanboys.

Wait until the price cut.

Wait until God of War.

Wait until GT5.

Wait until X new IN game gets here. Or another price cut.

I personally don't think the game will fail, but I don't think it will be as good in the sales department as some of you. 2-2.5 mil will be absolute best IMO. Is that a flop? Certainly not for most games with a normal budget and normal expectations.

How long has KZ2 been in development anyways? 4 years? Sony does have a lot riding on this title and I don't know if that is such a good thing overall. Putting all of your eggs in one basket is never a good idea. Overall it wouldn't matter to the success of the PS3 brand. It will just be another feather in the cap of lacklusterness that is PS3.
