Forums - Gaming - PSXtreme and why Google News is dangerous

So there's a really beaten horse of an article on PSXtreme about how MS and Sony can ignore Nintendo". I wont go into too much detail on it, because we've already read the same old arguments 100 times here on VGChartz.  While the article itself is enough of an ignorant statement with very few, if any, facts in it, the responses from the "community", (and I use that term loosely - after all a collection of village idiots does not a community make) were far worse and more ignorant.

Now you say, "DUH welcome to the internet" and I say "TANX!" and wipe the snot and drool off my face. What the issue is here is that Google News doesn't seem to give a f**k what they leave open to the public for their news links, and leave this sort of drivel of an editorial in plain view of the general masses of web surfers. So, Joe Schmo goes and thinks "Oh, I wonder what factual news I can get here from this article" and isn't smart enough to know that the site is full of raging fanboys. So, his opinion gets formed by these wastes of ovaries and sperm, and now he starts going around touting what he read as fact, which then infects other people he comes into contact with.

Its sort of like HIV. Hang out with some questionable people, hook up, get the HIV, don't know it, pass it on to your next GF and other people who would normally not hang out with questionable people, further infecting the general, otherwise dumb and innocent, population.

So what the hell is my point? There needs to be SOME sort of moderation of the news articles and their sources on google news. Editorials should not be posted as news - EVER.

And you truly felt that vgChartz was the best place to write your opinion on this?

Ok.... I guess you are allowed to have your own opinion...

You have a better place for it? I dont do the blog thing much. ;)

I agree that Google News is dangerous. I hear people qouting it at the office all day like they really know what is going on in the world around them. I guess the problem is that most news outlet sources are broken to say the least. It is a problem with information transfer in general.

An editorial is not news, there is no opinion in that.  It is a fact.

There is a reason why the editorial page is explictly marked in a newspaper.  It is so it doesn't get confused with the actual news.  A news article is factual.  An editorial is opinion, although it may be based in factual evidence.

@OP

I agree.  Stuff like that has no place being right next to the news.  The problem is that Google news is completely automated.

I saw that article last night and thought about letting the posters here rip it to shreds.  It was so bad, I decided against it.

@midwinter - Yeah, it can be really bad if people dont really dig and cross reference sites and check for consistency in the news/facts being said. Not that Im crazy about Yahoo news either, but at least that's modded.

@therepublic - Yeah the article was so bad, it'd be like beating up a quadriplegic here

There is no moderation on Google news. There are spammers like punch jump that get listed in the news constantly.
