The new best PS3 deal is at SonyStyle. If you get one of their credit cards, you get $150 in credit. That makes it $350 straight up. (And it still has the 5 free movies)

Maybe I should start a deals thread...

Not to mention the PS3 is also an upscaling machine...

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

The only machine to upscale to 1080p using hdmi, and it upscales ps2 and ps1 games as well, bro if your getting a high def player the ps3 is the best choice, and you have a gaming machine its smart.

I don't know about the upscaling feature of DVD players , I can only say ,that the DVDs I watched on my PS3 look totally fantastic , but the Casino Royale BD I got with the PS3 looks even a good deal better than that (right now my only BD).

Well, actually the post was intended to see difference between upconvert vs. hd dvd. bluray/ps3 is out of the question for me right now. i'm still considering whether to get it or not in the future, even if FF13 is exclusive. i'm just losing interest, just like how i lost interest in the psp.

anyways, i kind of like the hd dvd feature of:
"‘300’ will mark definitive steps forward in the extra content stakes by allowing users to re-edit the entire film by selecting and ordering individual scenes as they choose before then uploading their finished creation to a dedicated server hosted by Warner Bros. Furthermore, users will have access to an exclusive strategy game, and also be able to download re-edited movie versions added by other ‘300’ fans and watch the film again from someone else’s perspective."

im not so worried about hd dvd being obsolete. it'll be more than a couple years before that happens.

ps.  i'm not too interested in the 1080p upscaling since my tv is only 720p.  also, i've always wanted to use game console as game console, dvd player as dvd player.  just like how i dont use my wii for other online features other than download VC games.  i have my desktop and laptop for internet.

I have a PS3 and I can tellyou that DVD in 1080p is ok but, it will never be Blu-Ray. I have 26 Blu-Ray titles and I have not bought a DVD besides the Naked Brothers Band Movie since I got my PS3. In fact I am waiting to get all the Universal movies to come out on Blu-Ray insted of getting them on DVD. A lot of people will tell you not to jump into the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD camps cause the price is to high right know, but they have the wrong opinion. I just picked up 300 on Blu-Ray yesterday 29.99. Out of curiosity I looked at the special edition which has all the features on Blu-Ray just in 480p and it was 24.99. Most of the time Blu-Ray is between 10 and 13 dollars more than Blu-Ray but, in the end it is well worth the price. Personally if I got King Kong on dvd now for 17.99 I know I would get it on Blu-Ray once Universal gets on board with Blu-Ray so in the end I would spend more money anyways. Hope I helped or mabye you think I have the wrong opinion, either way its your decision, and you got to live with it make sure you think about were you will be 5 years from now and what the best decision is based on that.

I think i'll go with the hd dvd player for now. couple years down the road, then, i can think about what to get next. for the past 1.5 years, i have already gotten philips divx dvd player and panasonic upconvert dvd player. electronics change very quickly so even if the hd dvd player lasts only 2 years, it's well worth it :)

I'm considering the Toshiba HD-A2 but how much better is high definition 720p vs. upconverted 720p?  Does anyone know?  I currently have a cheap Panasonic DVD-S52.

Don't listen to these PS3 idiots they think the HD format war will be decided by a video game machine. Buy the A2 and spend half the price of a bluray player and get the same guality. I bought the A1 player at launch but my freind has the A2 and it upconverts better than any player I've used. Also the HD players are region free so most American bluray exclusives you can import from another country and watch on your player. Check out AV forums if you want solid info on HDdvd or Bluray, video game forums will be biased because of the PS3.
