Forums - General Discussion - How good are you at guitar?

I could play in a band as a rhythm guitarist, but that is about it. I can goof around and play a few things with picking, but I never really practice. It probably wouldn't be to hard. I can play bass, so I know the notes, but I can't slap or do any of the really cool stuff.

I really play piano and analog synth at a much much higher level than I do guitar.

Pretty average, check some of my videos on my youtube channel on my sig.

My left hand is preety good, i have some good speed, awful thing is that i do a lot of accidental pull-offs, and my right hand sucks, sometimes i hit the wrong string (yes, a shame) and i'm a failure at fast alternate picking.

And i couldn't care less for a whammy. I just wish i had some better gear, my guitar sounds really is kinda weird, it gets out of tune really fast and sometimes when switching to treble the sounds just goes away. I really need to see a luthier. Dude, what i wouldn't give for a zakk wylde signature les paul, zakk wylde is the best out there.

Some cool music i can play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk7PUDAZVR0

What about acoustic? I've had an acoustic longer than i had an electric.

Some cool music i can play on acoustic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOv0a119E4o (learning this one still, and no, i can't do that intro, but it's not that hard)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RukEd0wqz8o
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJMV6P16vLU

And on the keyboard, well, i'm really awful at improvising in a keyboard, though i can play pretty good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4tDP-yMwXI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQME-ChSwNM

And best song i know on the harmonica is this one, i always wanted to learn it xD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWunr5d2eHQ

So, let's make this a thread for more instruments.

And can somebody help me out with my accidental pull-offs? Is there a solution for that?

My duosonic fender guitar stays in tune forever and sounds really good, I love it.

I'm really really good at improvising on keyboard, though most of it sound classical or like Music from a NES game.

I think acoustic is lame, unless you know how to actually play stuff, which previosly stated, I don't. I like electric guitar through and amp because it sounds cool

I don't like harmonica.

Can't help with accidental pull offs since I just don't have that happen. Just take your finger off the string more softly?

.

Why acoustic is lame? I know it's only chord after chord sometimes, but for me really it's just so i can sing along, because i won't sing out of nowhere but i like singing, and having an acoustic, even with just straight chords, seems like an excuse to singing for me :P

That is, before i became interested in getting more deeply into acoustic guitar techniques. I dream of the day i'll play this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni8KBhnebwE

About the pull offs, i know people who have this problem and i know people who don't, i think it's based on the shape of the fingers, mine are thin and large so it may require a different motion when changing strings, i'm working into solving this problem...

I hate singing, except heavy metal growl, and words that you can't really decipher but sound good with the sond(when I look up the lyrics it usually ruins the song for me).

That youtube video looks like something I could do if I practiced it, because I'm a great finger picker and that song doesn't look very complicated.

My hands are great shape for playing guitar so I can't relate to your problem of pull offs still.

I fail at finger picking that fast, i need to buy one of those thumb picks to see if it can help.

And i guess we have pretty diferent musical tastes lol

Never liked the guitar, so I never tried to learn to play on one :P

Wanted to learn blues guitar, but I wasn't good. I then took up metal guitar and I was a better at that.

I don't play anymore though, it took me a long time to learn very little, I just wasn't good.

Yes, it takes a long time to learn very little... I tried to learn a song from super mario and it took me like 30 mins to figure out and play correctly 10 seconds of it. Only problem I have with guitar is learning to play songs... I like improvising and just messing around and trying new things.

If youre serious about guitar, or any instrument, it might be worth learning how to sightread music notation. Once you get that skill down solid while playing, you can play any song on the fly, just by reading the notes as you go along. Much easier than trying to memorize every note.

I don't have much dificulty learning new songs, and i can even remember some i learned months ago with 15 minutes of trying, but come on, there are songs you just can't sightread.
