Forums - Sales - Prediction: RE5 will be the worst selling RE in Japan

I base this on the fact that it's borrowing several themes from western games and the land of the rising sun "ain't having that."

Thoughts?

RE5 can get close to Code Veronica (400k) between both the X360 and PS3 versions. It'll be close either way, but it's possible for it to still beat out RE:CV which is the worst selling main-line Resident Evil.

The west is a totally different story. I think it'll be one of the biggest ever made....Will do great on the X360 in North America (where I think that it could sell 2m units alone)

You think it can do 2 million on the 360 in the US alone?

So that's around 3 million PS30 US = around 5 million total sales worldwide? I think that's overly positive. I might be wrong, but RE4 sold 4.3 (close to 6 million with the Wii version) million on a combined userbase of some 100 million consoles, plus was reviewed amazingly well.

It totaly can do 2 million on 360 in US.

Lost planet sold over 1 million on 360 alone and it had no brandname reckognition, no fanbase, smaler 360 instal base and a prequel that is one of the best games ever made.

Given the transition Capcom seems to be turning Resident Evil into a scarier Gears of War...I think it'll appeal to the X360's massive shooter crowd. How many third person shooters on the PS2/GC have done as well as the many X360 offerings?

The online Co-Op will boost sales to great amounts. And yes, I think 5m is likely, and even 6m is possible.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Yeah, you might be right. All the reasons you name are a real shame for me (and a lot of other fans of the series) though.

A scarier Gears with online co-op...now that's something to be afraid of.

They could just throw in a free ver. of 1-4. Like nuts & bolts. So they try to rope in a few old school gamers.

You wanna have your opinion, then you have to respect different opinions as well.

There are a couple of flaws in your comparison of the PS2/Gamecube and the Xbox 360.

First the Gamecube and the PS2 did not have a dedicated online service.

Second the PS2 and Gamecube  do not offer the services that the Xbox 360 offers, netflex and others.

Thirdly, last gen was not about graphics and pushing the limits of technology like this gen. Those are some of the obvious ones but there are more.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

RE5 to me is a mix of gears of war 2 and Devil may cry 4!

Agreed plus the fact that the install base of console's it is releasing on is smaller too...

And how do you think that those things would hurt a X360/PS3 version versus what the GC/PS2 offered?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'm starting to believe that "hardcore" means "I love shooting games." Seriously, they're turning RE from a niche title (hardcore?) into a title that suits the more general console fanbase (casual?), and people are actually loving this and defending it? They're changing the entire formula just so it's more mainstream.

Then these "hardcore" fans start bitching to Nintendo about what they're doing? Talk about hypocrisy!
