Diomedes1976 said: We are confounding things ....I said the PS3 and 360 lineups are far better than the WIi one .NOT that the WIi one had less selling power .As some point ,Mario and Wii Fit may have more selling power than some of the brilliant games of the other plattforms .
So lets not confound .....sales wise the Wii can have a terrific lineup to pile lots of customers ,kiddies ,grannies ,girls ,long time retirees ,Mario fans ...fat people with Wii Fit ...etc etc
But quality-wise the lineup of both the 360 and the PS3 is light years ahead . |
I agree. Some people like films and most people like movies. Saving Private Ryan is a better film, but Pirates of the Carribean beats it at the box office.
The best games of the past generation sold well (some include: Final Fantasy, Mario, GoW, Zelda) But all were beaten by GTA. GTA3 and the spinoffs are fun, but it is unpolished, trashy, glitchy, and ugly. But the contraversy and fun of it all made it very very successful.
I hate to say it, but games sell not because of quality, controls, or even visuals. It comes from buzz. Last gen the fun games with the mainstream buzz were Grand Theft Auto games. This year it is Wii stuff.
Timeline for ultra-success
Some type of interest is generated > gamers get into it > reaches the mainstream media > others buy into it > more media coverage > more buyers > console or software price drops allow late adopters to buy the game months and years into the games life.
This is what happened with SMB1, the 90's fighting games (SFII and MK, which don't chart too high because they were on so many consoles with so many remakes/sequals), GTAIII, and Halo
