Forums - Nintendo - Could slowing Wii sales in Japan finally prompt some kind of action?

I think it's to early for modifications like new colours. In 2009 there are still loads of Games that will appeal to Japanese audience, MH3 should pull off great Numbers , there are few good quality JRPG's coming out as well. If that does not get numbers higher then Ninty will start experimenting.

Plus they still are trashing the competion.

Why was it never bundled with Wii Sports over there? Wonder much difference it would've made...

I don't know why it never was? Wii Sports is still a popular purchase though as it's sold almost 3.3 million copies (out of 7 million Wii's), which is a pretty damn good attach rate. I know when I first bought my Wii here in Japan, I bought Wii Sports for it.

Now that the yen has gotten stronger the relative price of the Wii has gone up compared to say the USA. Now buying a Wii and Wii Sports (separately) would equal about $300, or more than the cost of the same Wii/Wii Sports bundle in the USA. When I bought my Wii in early 2007 the price came out cheaper than buying the equivalent system in the US. The Wii was still supply constrained here in Japan at that time as well!

@SuperSteveyLes: Japan's population is about 120 million.

I never realized that nintendo's goal with the wii was to surpassed the ps2.... i just thought that they wanted to beat both ps3 and X360..... b/c i mean, the competition for the wii are X360 and ps3, not ps2

Nintendo believe the wii will surpass the ps2.

Still, that's not nintendo's goal. So..... 8-)
