Forums - Sales - Sony's video game division is in turmoil. Nintendo is dominating sales.

Here in Germany I see almost no PSP-TV-ads. It is as if Sony does not know that there is Xmas in 4 weeks.

Sony? hello?

Considering the price Sony is doing great... but threads like this are getting ridiculously boring, so I will leave now :P

Sony is doing pretty well I think considering their later arrival on the scene compared to the Xbox and the higher price tag.

I don't know if people noticed, but Sony managed to pull the Xbox360's marketshare down under 30% this week.

I am not sure if Sony managed this. There is this magical white box which now has 48.1 % marketshare ...

The Nintendo Wii selling at a rapid rate been the most significant factor in  the X360 market share falling below 30%.

numonex, the PSP is actually doing pretty well for itself. 40 million already, should manage (at least) 20 million more by the time it stops selling completely.

Lets look where that slips in in the rankings

Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color 118.69 million
Nintendo Nintendo DS 84.33 million
Nintendo Game Boy Advance 81.36 million
Sony PlayStation Portable 41 million
Sega Game Gear 11 million
Nokia N-Gage 3 million
SNK Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color 2 million
NEC TurboExpress 1.5 million
Sega Nomad 1 million

The PSP has outsold all Non-nintendo handhelds twice over, and then some. It's also made a decent profit I believe.

@Uraeus: No, we didn't notice.
360 had 29,8% share last week (others numbers), PS3 had 17% share and Wii 53,2% share, which means that Nintendo gained, M$ lost only a little bit and Sony lost quite a lot. Between 360 and PS3, 360 gained and PS3 lost.
So, what 360 lost, didn't have much about anything to do with PS3.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

PS3 price vs the 360 and Wii is probably more of an issue. As is the very slow build to decent levels of game release, the continued absence of well known Sony franchises, etc.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I wouldn´t call PSP hardware sales numbers a failure at all...the very first non-Nintendo handheld to get to 40 million and still going.

The sales of the PSP are quite good, but i do not get why Sony doesn't push the PSP with TV-ads showing games. Nintendo does every day.

Sony need to advertise more and be smarter about it.

Here in the UK you are nearly guaranteed to see a PS3 add during major sporting events.

Congrats Sony you are targetting the market the Xbox had already won.
Maybe its a stroke of genius and all the gen x males will go out and by a second high def console with hundreds of duplicated titles at an eye watering price.

Then again maybe they wont.
