Forums - Sales - Sony's video game division is in turmoil. Nintendo is dominating sales.

Sony's sales and marketing division  should be blamed for PS3 and PSP's mediocre hardware sales.
Weak sales numbers for PSP and PS3 are reported continuously.
Sony's strategy is clearly not working and these latest advertisements I have seen advertising the Sony games and products are just a joke.

Sony needs to make some drastic changes to turn things around to be more competitive in the video game market.

Nintendo's sales and marketing division has worked brilliantly to sell its video game products to the consumer. Sony should use the Nintendo model and it may help them sell more consoles and games to the consumers and make some profits.

Both the DS and Wii have more than doubled hardware sales of their Sony competitor during same time frame.

DS = 87 million Vs PSP = 40 million Both have been out for around 4 years each respectively.

Wii = 37 million Vs PS3 = 17 million Both have been out for around 2 years each respectively.

Expect some heat for this one.

I personally find Sony's marketing to be good but what do I know?

I think there is more to Sony's mediocre hardware sales than just marketing.

I'm not sure they could use Nintendo's marketing well either, since it's aimed almost entirely at women.

PS3 is doing very well with its current price tag! It is more exclusive product and most of people will go for cheaper product which offers similar games.

Xbox 36 has a hardware-crippling error called the Red Ring of Death. Also, cake is delicious!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

100% true.  It's like males don't buy DS from the adverts I see here in the UK

There is no cake! As for nintendo's great marketing, i would say word of mouth has sold alot of wii's (i.e. going around a friends house for a dinner party and playing it, then thinking yea we should have this) which i think is backed up by the software sales

Same thing in the U.S. tuoyo. I don't know why that is but it does seem to be working.

Bad performance for PS3 and PSP isn't due to marketing. The products itself aren't as wanted as competitor products. Simple as that.
So, i'd rather say, that the two Sony products have done so well because of the marketing that they have had behind them.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Sony is doing pretty well I think considering their later arrival on the scene compared to the Xbox and the higher price tag.

I don't know if people noticed, but Sony managed to pull the Xbox360's marketshare down under 30% this week.
