Sony is not looking to have 4 or 5 years with this console as their competitors, but 10 years. The hardware is future proof and even if they just added more features to Ps4 without a dramatic graphics jump, that would be fine.
Sony shouldn't even consider a price cut to temporarily boost sales IF they were really serious about wanting the console to be around fpr as long as they plan. They are not after the battle, but the WAR. ( One in which I think they will lose to nintendo by the way, I just tried to be as objective as possible..... nothing wrong with a respectable second place) |
oh come on, nothing is future-proof, you don't have to believe everything sony says, didn't they claim the PS2 was powerful enough to launch rockets. (maybe it could launch a small rocket...like consumers can buy and set off in a field...but all you need for that is a launch button)
i do agree the PS3 could well have a long life, whether it's 10 years i don't know, maybe they are counting until they stop making it rather than when the PS4 comes out (because the PS2 will be coming up to 8 years old soon....even the GC is still being made [or it was last financial year])
and X-box 360 and Wii will not have a shorter than 5 year cycle, i expect 5 or 6 for 360, and anywhere between 5 and 8 for Wii, it's hard to tell.
and i do agree that really with all those features it is worth the money, but that's not how things work, the conveniance [spelling?] and lower price of an all in one box sounds appealing, but when it comes down to it most people don't want to pay extra for what they don't need, i don't need a BR player or a film downloading service or the ability to put a picture of my own up as a screensaver on my console, i would actually quite like Freeview, but as that costs all of £20 it's not worth it, and having to fire up such an energy unfriendly machine like the PS3 to watch TV is stupid (unless it works from standby, which would be good if still probably more energy than a normal freeview box)
which reminds me, anyone seen the Carbon footprint ad's (in UK) with the 360 controller in it? made me laugh because they are talking about switching off all these energy wasting machines.
