Since this is not clear to everyone and Sony announced a new feature, i decided to create this topic. PS3 needs (real) pricecut to get sales boosted, but Sony can't cut the price. So, they are forced to add features to justify the high price. And why is that? If Sony would cut the price significatly lower, than BD players in market, it would propably mean the death of Blu-Ray. If price would drop too much, the only BD players sold would be PS3:s and that would pretty soon cause the hardware manufacturers to drop the support from BD, and propably turn to HD-DVD camp. At this point of competition that would mean BD becoming the new Minidisc of UMD. So, Sony has to keep the price of the PS3 at a point, where manufacturing the BD is profitable to (other) hardware manufacturers. Sony can win the race between BD and HD-DVD with the PS3, but they can also lose it with the PS3. It also looks like that they can win only the race between the video formats or the race between consoles, but not both of them.
