Exactly... that's the whole reason for Sony's early mistakes. They thought some people would see the PS3 and go "Wow a Blueray player and a Videogame Machine" and buy it like crazy, while others would just buy it because the PS2 was just so much better then everything on the market. The only slip up was they overestimated how much the second group was.
Even if PS3 became a complete bust of a failure like the Dreamcast (which i liked.) It will be well worth it for them by winning the Blu-ray war. The fact that there is almost no chance it'll go the way of the Dreamcast for Sony is just icing on the cake. They took their captial they gained in the videogame market and spent it on helping win the Hi-Def wars.
