Forums - Nintendo - Has Nintendo Lost the Hardcore Gamer? article by IGN

This once again reminds me about one commercial. In the commercial, there was an old, wealthy looking, man in the backseat of a limousine thinking aloud about the gasoline price "I think gasoline should cost 20 euros a litre... Only friends would drive by"

There are other instances than just Nintendo to blame for ruining industries. Henry Ford ruined the cars industry. IBM, Apple, Commodore etc., ruined the computer industry and so on.
Before them, the industries were only for the elite.

Half of the article was plain shit and the other half actually pretty good read.

Considering Iwata said at early 2007, that they have something above 100 Wii games in developement, i have to agree Mike Intellivision. Sure a number of them have already been released, some canned, some delayed, but it still should leave a large number of games into their sleeves. Nintendo propably have had to hold game releases back, due to hardware supply issues.

@Picko: Not that i can fully say i disagree, i mean for example the shooter fans have really low standards for quality, but even in that case, the market isn't "golden" and the competition is pretty fierce among the top shooters. Same will happen to the blue ocean market, if you want to sell games to them, the games need to be good quality. Games may not be what the core market likes, but the new market isn't any dumber or have any lower standards.

Uh, now I don't get you. Why would someone who are graphic whores and the ones "who always plays shooters and so on" care about the sales of wii fit? Those people are most likely playing on other consoles. I can't see why they would be affected by the game sales on wii.

No room for shooters for ps3/360? Take a look at the sales number at the front page. What, are you saying that there is no gameplay on sony/ms titles?

You edited your post, so:

The sales figures prove that the "hardcore" gaming is doing fine. Just take a look at the game sales. 50 million sellers for 360..

You'll knew what I mean during the course of 2009...

I want to know now! Please explain, what do you expect will happen in 2009?

I forgot:
@Esa-Petteri: Beats me too. But still the group in question seems to be most vocal about the sales of Wii Fit.

Hardcore just means bad language, killing, violence and racing doesn't it?

Big boys toys?

That sounds like an awesome commercial.

We shoul also remember that Sony already ruined the game industry once in the late 90's.  Now it's Nintendo's turn.

As long as I have been lurking here, the most vocal group has been the ones who like to bash the "hardcore".

You must've missed the threads about how the Wii is a fad, GTA4 will kill the Wii, Wii Fit will flop, Wii Music is killing the industry, and Mario Kart is casual crap.

Personally, I don't care what people play.  But when they call themselves "hardcore" to act better than other people, screw 'em.

I hate to break it to you Nintendo fans, but you're all hardcore.

You've been playing games all your life and you take them seriously enough to spend so much time reading about them and arguing about them on the internet. How is that not hardcore?

Yeah. As I said, as long as I have been lurking here. During that time I haven't seen any GTA will kill the wii or wii fit will flop threads. I'm not so sure about that wii music is killing the industry, but I guess you can show me that one? Oh and what is wrong if someone considers mario kart as "casual crap"? How does that affect you?

Are those who call other people "snobcore" any better?  Or the ones who use "hardcore" to bash some people who happen to like for example, shooters?

They've lost quite a few...

Let me be the first to say that Wii's 09 lineup is just as good as that of the HD consoles (exclusives atleast...).

I'm with trestres on 08 though. The absolute worst year of any console I've ever owned. 2 games worth buying this year. Yes, TWO. And they weren't even that great.

Wow, the worst year EVER?!? You clearly didn't own a N64 or Gamecube...

This year wasn't great by any standard, but not bad either. Brawl / Mario Kart / Symphonia (US) / Disaster (EU/JAP) / Shaun White (try it, it's fantastic) / de Blob / Monster Lab / PES 08 /  World of Goo / Okami / Mega Man 9 / Strong Bad series / LostWinds / Animal Crossing / Skate It / Mushroom Men

But I think Matt is right when he says that 2009 is shaping up to be a great year. (Anyone notice the announcement of 2 core EA titles, wonder what they are).
