Actually I just read the review on ign, this game really isn't all that good. I was expecting the game to be average at best like how infinite indiscovery. The technical issues really made me think twice about the game, and also the whole battle system isn't all that well. I will pass on this game, sorry. The next JRPG purchase for me is lost odyssey.

What's Ogre Battle?

That isn't for you Xlost7, that is for Square Enix. The jack asses have been sitting on the Ogre Battle IP for a decade now. Ogre Battle is a strategy RPG. Quest created it and later went on to create Tactics Ogre. Final Fantasy Tactics is essentially Tactics Ogre with Final Fantasy classes.

Ogre Battle put you in control of an army. You army had different squads. You could only give them general orders, you couldn't command each and every member. TLR has similar take on things. I'm not sure what to tell you Xlost7. Finding a copy of Ogre Battle or its awesome sequel Ogre Battle 64 is near impossible. Here are some links to the wiki pages.

It is an awesome series and its damn shame that a whole generation of gamers don't know what it is thanks to Square Enix. If they could only stop whoring out FF and DQ for five seconds, they may remember that they have other awesome IPs. I mean at the bare minimum they could do a remake of the Neo Geo Pocket Color game that never made it outside of Japan. They remake everything else for DS...

I may be the only VGC-er to own a copy, as Ogre Battle 64 was a Day-1 buy for me.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I mean I don't want to bash the game or anything because it looks awesome. I haven't seen any gameplay videos of the game. I usually don't listen to reviewers at all. But ign just made this game bad, as if to say its unplayable.

I haven't really gotten into the strategy genre. But if this is anything close to the vastly ogre battle, should I play TLR? It looks awesome and I really want to enjoy it but the technical issues are scaring me.

Plus I haven't played a JRPG this generation yet. So my best bet is to start with lost odyssey then tales of vesperia then to whatever games is left.

If you are looking for a traditional JRPG you may not get what you expect out of an Ogre Battle like game, IMO (It would be more similar to a SRPG).

Unfortunately I've had trouble finding a copy of Ogre Battle 64 (or even Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen), so I've been stuck replaying the glory days of Ogre Battle through emulators (which suck because Ogre Battle 64 replays horrible with many graphical problems)

So does anybody else own a copy of Ogre Battle 64 or even Ogre Battle: MotBQ?

@mrstickball, you are 1 lucky fellow, I was young when the SNES one came out and couldn't convince my parents to invest in it (I remember being totally pumped reading about it in Nintendo Power), but for some odd reason OB64 flew under the radar when I was younger and I don't remember ever seeing it in a store.

Just rent it Xlost7, It may not be your cup of tea. I don't know what crawled up the IGN reviews rear end but that game does not suck. So far it's better than Infinite Undiscovery to me. I'm gonna actually put my IU play through on hold and continue playing TLR.

I think the major issue to the reviewers is that they didn't install it, as the review was most likely finished before NXE launched.

From my understanding, installing the game resolves the large majority of issues with the game. Notice that reviewers aren't knocking the gameplay, they're knocking the technical issues (and why are they attacking that, given that Mass Effect and Fallout 3 have had game-breaking issues?)
