^Patcher was the one who suggested WiiHD. The statements from Patcher were made because of what analysts think will happen with the Wii. Not all analysts believe WiiHD is coming, at least not in 2-3 years.

And if they do...they're idiots...do these analysts even know how the videogame industry works?

First, they have never done to consoles what they do to handhelds.

Second, when they do revamp handhelds, they do not significantly change the hardware, i.e., HD.

Third, You assume 100% of people to trade in their Wii's for new ones in a matter of 2 years???? I sure wont, especially since I dont have an HDTV.

Fourth, This would piss of all early adopters, and Nintendo would loose a hell of a lot of credibility. Stop supporting their new console in 2-3 years?

Not happening. 

An one else honestly not see the wii as a short term product? its perfect for that. Its profitable form day one it can be replaced at ant time with no losses. They could sale both Wii and WiiHD at the same time and possibly grow their market share (i doubt it). Good chance it will happen, wii wont last long. They need something like it every few years to keep the fire burning.

These same analysts predicted the PSP would pwn the DS...
Pachter himself has admited he doesn't understand the DS's success (some analyst...) so why should he understand the Wii's? They seems stuck in a mental rut of how the industry use to work, but not how it's working now. Pachter in particular is clueless about the entire casual gamer thing.

As far as HD penetration, I doubt that'll change anything. People will still play Wii on their HD TV's (and do even as I type), because they find it fun. The recent Neilson research showed that people earning $100,000+ predominately purchased Wii's. Umm, guess what? They own HDTVs.

Nintendo is only concerned about one thing right now. How to get enough Wii's manufactured so there are no shortages during this holiday season.

Sure they are working on a follow-up to the Wii, but to suggest it'll be out in 2-3 years is beyond silly. Wasn't there a lot of this same talk about the DS starting to fade due to the superior PSP graphics? I do believe that since Nintendo is making a ton of cash on the Wii, and since HD technology costs will decrease substantially, you will see Nintendo re-enter the "arms" race for the next-generation.

I'm guessing that will be around 2012 though.

Introducing a new console in 3 years or less would be a bad move...it'd screw over all the current Wii owners.

 What I want is a better Wii sometime in the future, improved web browsing, hard drive, and hopefully more cost effective so I won't mind buying it.  You can't just slap on a more powerful processor and graphics card, and start making HD games...it doesn't work like that...none of the current Wiis would able to play future games...

I haven't bothered to read the story or this page but I want to seriously ask where people get this idea from that there will be a HD revision of the Wii.

This is a full on venture from Nintendo, it WILL have a minimum lifespan of 5 years, and if the Wii continues to dominate, it will be around for alot longer (That 10 year lifespan claim from Sony may be applicable in the Wii's case!). It's not like the Wii's games instantly look like shit just because they're not displayed in high pixel resolutions (which come on - a majority of the mass market probably wouldn't know a thing about).

In gametrailers.com there is a section call bonus round... in episode 2 when they where talking about the wii... patcher said that certain game would never appear on the wii... and he asked a guy that works at sierra if the would ever released the godfather on the wii... and he says that it would never happen...

That is a great example of how clueless he is about the current console market... where anything can happen...
