So that's 4% of the readers encountered the RRoD. 4% of 23 million isn't a widespread issue. That's even assuming the fanboys didn't pick one of the other RRoD options.

4% would be huge, remember the enormous media outcry during a PS3 firmware update. That caused problems in 0.1% of cases and was fully recoverable (if you backed up your savegames).

Almost nobody at NeoGaf experienced any problems before it was pulled as a precaution (hardcore gamers, usually the first ones to update):

So because people overreacted about one thing we should overreact about this?

This is not over reacting, 6.5% is huge. Look how many xboxs are on the market. Now take 6.5 percent of them.....that's a crap load of people having to send there system in and pay $100. No one wants to drop 100 dollars and it's bullcrap that it even happens.

@infamous

It's not a fake topic, just type in NXE red ring on google.

  1. It's a public poll with absolutely no control.  We can all accept for a fact there will be fanboys who will lie to make whatever console they don't like seem bad.  That's just how things are.
  2. The numbers aren't believable because one side is so skewed.  If it was a problem with a certain group of 360's then you would either see consistent numbers across all three RRoD options or a certain group of 360's getting bricked.  Not random ones.
  3. Even if we are to completely believe that poll 100%, 4.8% of the people are only screwed, the other 1.7% don't have to pay anything.  4.8% is still a small number and since we know that fanboys really do skew things, it's probably closer to 1% (even though I said otherwise earlier, I was just being really generous) which is a small number.
  4. I'm not denying that 360's RRoD, I never have, I'm just saying it's not nearly as big of a deal that this story or whatever "stories" you found on google says the NXE RRoD story is.  If it were, we would see much more coverage of it.

So yes, it's largely people overreacting.

Remember, the warranty was extended to 3 years to cover RROD. The 360 was released Nov 22, 2005, meaning any ship-day 360s bricked by NXE are under warranty until tomorrow. So you can discredit a majority (all?) of those who said that MS told them they have to pay $100 to get it fixed.

Ah, I thought they were released something like the 17th or 18th but wrong I guess (just checked the wiki).  I guess that only leaves refurbished and people who modded their own consoles (which makes the problem out of MS's hands since they cannot control what happens from there).

Just saw the update yesterday on my friend's 360. I thought it was a nice improvement over the old UI; I liked it. No problems with the system or with the update; played Gears 2, Horde for a while.

I suppose we should of expected this post. No way somebody was going to let the 360 boys get away with a nice update like this.

Now lets sit back and wait for any actual evidence and people responding it happened to me on forum is not evidence. Particularly when folks take this so personally.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

So no one on this forum has received an RRoD or bricked XBox from the NXE except for Impulsivity... who sold his 360 on eBay months ago? Doesn't seem very wide spread to me. I guess we'll see in the next few weeks. I won't hold my breathe, I'm guessing this topic will just fade away.

Also, I find the majority of Engadget readers to be Apple fanboys with a bias against Microsoft, so I could certainly see that poll being somewhat tampered with.

lol, that post made me actually follow the link from the last page.  Didn't realize he sold his 360 and then NXE failed him.  :-p

I wouldn't put any stock in those online polls. For all we know, 360 haters are clicking that they encountered problems even though they've never even owned a 360. Same goes with forum posts, you never know what the motives of the posters are.

I'll need to see something more than online polls and forum posts. I'm not saying it's not happening, but real credible evidence is required.

no problem here with bricking... it just dose not sign into my account sometimes when it boots up
