Manufacturing costs are around $250 (+hd) for an XBox360. You do the math...

Can you give me a link on those prices?

Nope sorry, but the value of $250 for an XBox360 (and $350 for a PS3) is floating around in hardware discussion forums (and coincides with my own experiences of 25 years in mass manufacturing industries).

sony has come out publicly and stated that the ps3 would not break even with the 400 dollar mark until around january so your already off there..... has IDC not broken down a new 360 to make a guess?

I agree with you, but mine, other than saying that although with less cash than MS Sony can still do decently, was more a bit of a rant against bankers and stock exchange big investors, that are so eager, for their own interests, to try to get state aid, to make everybody believe that the world is on the brink of disaster that they don't mind spreading excessive panic and depressing commerce more than justified by mere prudence.
Anyway, not all industries are innocent, car makers for example: they knew since Gulf War I first and 9/11 after, that oil price was doomed to rise to level so high to depress car sales at each hiccup of economy, why they kept on releasing SUV's with crazy fuel consumption and didn't develop more and more timely energy efficient engines?
