Besides not wanting to lose more on each console for now, and not being able to renegotiate components purchase prices before Xmas, when demand is high and suppliers have the whip end, Sony, although selling less than MS, is anyway within its own predictions and now it would be too late to ramp up production and stockpile units for Xmas, so a price cut would risk to be wasted and produce lower revenues and shortages instead of higher sales.
Right now Sony can do little but just do its better to reach or better exceed 20million units sold by the first week of January 2009, but even if it will eventually grab 2nd place WW, and this should be possible after price cut and slim version release, it's becoming more and more difficult it will overtake MS in USA, there XB360' 2nd place is by now almost granted forever.
