There is a difference, lets say the two were 1000, and the 360 was 800, if the price were to drop by 100 between most models would it make a difference? No they wont sell because they arent available to an expanded audience due to its PRICE.

Now its basicly the same, compare a $99 dollar console, and a $199 console, despite the cost, the console that appeals most to the general audience will sell because both are near if not below the mass market intruduction price.

Now if we were to compare a mass market console at $199 versus a $399 console its different, the 199 console is available to the entire mass market, if they want one they buy one, now the difference is the 400 dollar console isnt at mass market price, and even if those that wanted one would want to buy it, they would be restricted due to its price.

People!!! We have to remember this is not a race, Sony is not looking to over take anyone, they are only trying to make a profit and meet the demands of the shareholders...

the ps3 has no where near reached its peak yet, whilst the 360 has already given everythings its got and only ended so far on a measley 22 million. do you people not look to the future? imo that 5 million will be a joke by the end of the ps3's life cycle because the gap between them will be 50 million. and yes, it will be the ps3 that is 50 million ahead, just in case you were wondering! sony know what they are doing i tell ya, ps1 and ps2 both over 100 million and the only consoles to ever get there and until another console tops that, they will stay the kings. what the hell makes any of you even think microsoft can even break the 40 million mark with the xbox 360?

at the price the 360 is, those sales look embarassing to me.

While the PS3 is no PS2, neither is X360. If PS3 end of lifes one year after X360 the PS3 can easily meet or beat X360 sales.

Despite all that, PS4 and X720 can turn everything upside down. By the next gen both Sony and MS are going to build into their console/linup everything that makes the Wii a success and unless Nintendo comes up with something new that makes their console more casual than the others it will end up in third place with MS and Sony jockeying for 1st place. Fact is when all the new gamers of the Wii get tired of shallow gameplay and want to graduate to games with more depth and a better overall linup they will flock over to PS4/X720 unless Nintendo learns how to attract better 3rd party support and get a better controller.

A 50 million gap? That is some powerful fantasy math.

I think it's inevitable.

A timely price drops in line with GT5's release would be enough to wipe that gap in a matter of months.
