Forums - Sales - Will PS3 beat 360 in WW sales for 2008?

Going by how the ps3 been getting whipped the past few weeks it doesn't look like it will happen so my answers no

since most have accepted defeat on the matter a good victory for ps3 fans now would be

Can ps3 outsell 360 ww any week of the remaining year

that would be a nice victory for ps3 for this time of struggle for being outpriced

PS3 YTD - 7, 953, 306

360 YTD - 7, 304, 360

Difference: 648, 946

Where did you get those numbers from??

From first week '08 (5th Jan) through to 22nd Nov (now) vgchartz has this;

PS3 - 8,281,575

360 - 7,552,905

Difference - 728,670 with 5 weeks left avg weekly gain must be over 145,734.

Adjustments must have been made.

I do an adjusted YTD and Difference once all the data is in at the end of the week as I've done earlier in the thread.

My numbers are un-adjusted YTDs and differences.

To be honest i think this is probably the last year the X360 might be able to nudge out the PS3 in sales, 2009 will be PS3's year for sure with price-cuts and some major titles coming up. Who knows, if i look at what kind of turn-around 360 made after the recent price cuts, PS3 might even overtake the 360 in total sales worldwide or atleast come near a tie at the end of next year. Wouldn't suprise me one bit to be honest, know i'l be getting one next year for killzone 2, GT5 etc. Have been a proud owner of a (still working!) 360 since day one so this definitely isn't fanboy talk...

every year the ps3 loses causes the following year to become ps3s year. 2010 year of the ps3 confirmed

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

well with the black fridays sells as they are over 250k lead for the 360 in amaerica alone i think they 360 will outsell the PS3 overall this year =P

Looking at about a 400k differnce for this week if things remain constant and PS3 is about 225k with 360 at about 550k in NA for the week. You would have 25k to play with even if others were a bit tighter this week.

Yeah, if these numbers are fairly accurate and if the difference in Others continues, the 360 is probably just a week or so away from topping the PS3's worldwide sales for 2008.  Considering we'll still have 2-3 weeks left in December AFTER that, I think its more of an inevitability now.

Given the numbers we have been provided its almost a certitude that the 360 will outperform the PS3 this year. The future prospects for next year are not much brighter for the PS3 either. The PS3 enjoyed a development cycle lull for the other manufacturers this year. Mostly due to delays allowing the PS3 to bunch up titles this year.

That will however not be the case this year. Microsoft has most of their exclusive developers turning in their favor in the upcoming year, and Nintendo should start delivering its own core game development. Which was woefully neglected this year. While Sony will probably have less exclusive developers turning up next year then this year.

Just as a matter of coarse you cannot have all your studios deliver high quality games once a year. A development cycle really needs two years to result in quality, and this year Sony spent a lot of that.
