Xbox GOTY the year GTA4? The other consoles, used exclusives... Somehow PC GOTY 2008 is COD4.

Why do people like gta4?seriously it got 98 on metacritic and now it getting GOTY?Easily biggest dissapointment of 08 by far(except for ut3 why the fuck did i buy that game?)

It was far better than I expected, and I hated every other GTA before it. They casualized the game, and took most of the bloat out of it, and I, along with millions and millions of fans and reviewers, loved the hell out of it.

The people you're talking about, the small internet anti GTAIV community, is probably about 10k people max, and most of them probably never even played it, and are just bitter than it keeps certain other games from their supposed proper spot as GotY.
