Forums - Sales - Marvelous Entertainment Q2 Earnings Release (11/14)

The Japanese market is significantly down compared to previous years. It is no surprise Marvelous/MMV is directly impacted. And with the strong yen, interior losses aren't triggered off by overseas sales.

The previous half-year, in Japan, looking through VGChartz numbers, Marvelous sales were like this :

Valhalla Knights 2 (PSP) : 115k (Expectation : 68k)

Luminous Arc 2: Will (DS) : 89k (Expectation : 86k)

Hitman Reborn DS: Fate of Beat (DS) : 65k

Hitman Reborn: Battle Arena (PSP) : 34k

Tokyo Majin Gakuen: Kenfuuchou (DS) : 23k

To Love Ru - Trouble - Waku Waku! (DS) : 17k

Hitman Reborn: Ring x Bongole Returns (PS2) : 12k

Demon Detective Nougami Neuro (DS) : 9k

Hanayoi Romanesque: Ai to Kanashimi (PS2) : 4k

Steal Princess (DS) : 3k (Expectation: 16k)

Regarding the next half-year, so far, going by VGChartz numbers, it looks like this :

To Love Ru - Trouble - Doki Doki (PSP) : 28k

Ikki Tousen: Eloquent Fist (PSP) : 23k

Harvest Moon: Animal March (Wii) : 15k

Avalon Code (DS) : 37k (Expectation: 56k)

Akagawa Jirou Mystery: Tsuki no Hikari (DS) : 5k

Not very encouraging.
And, 'Rune Factory: Frontier' (Wii) is being released today in Japan. I don't feel it... :(

How could they post a loss, after all they developed mostly on nintendo platforms and we all know it is almost free to develop on wii/ds. Oh and I see they developed NMH which was a huge success. These number must be due those few psp-games they have developed.

No More Heroes was a huge success.  They threw a party they were so happy.

Perhaps the party put them over budget.

Ahah ^^

This fiscal report is for the period of April-September 2008.

'No More Heroes' has been released in 2007 in Japan, and January 2008 in the USA. So, it is not counted here.

The problem is not platform specific. They just didn't have any real good success during this half-year.

If you had taken the time to actually read the post you would have seen that the software division is posting a profit and that the loss comes from the digital contents division.

Isn't the software division and the digital contents division the same thing?

Yep, sorry looked at the wrong column. Why do they call everything software...

Unfortunately it is. ^^'

Edit : Ah, too late.

The 'Music and Video' department is only for that : Anime (Artland being the subsidary's name) and Music (Delfi Sound).

The issue actually looks to be that they didn't have Wii titles in the first half. Next year should be much better with a lot of major Wii titles.

Wow a developer who didn't target HD consoles at all has made a loss? Completely impossible: after all Wii titles can be developed by two interns and a part-timer and are much more profitable than HD games.
