Hard to tell what next year will bring when MS has been keeping most of the software quiet for '09 up until now. Other than Halo Wars and Recon, they've only said "We've got stuff up our sleeve."

I don't know why you people keep trying to support the notion that the 360 has a lot of high quality phantomware titles in development. How many of its games can actually be considered to even be high quality in 2008?

And that was about it because Ninja Gaiden II, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssesy (if your expectations for the game was that it was a Final Fantasy Killer, if you just expected the game to be a medium quality pre Final Fantasy rpg as seen in most console generations prior to when the first FF game comes out and shows what AAA rpgs are in each generation then your expectations for LO were met), Too Human, and Infinite Undiscovery all failed to meet expectations.

The PS3 had MGS 4-- received 10s at IGN, Famitsu, and Play Magazine.

The best version of Grand Theft Auto IV -- highest rated game of this gen. 

Little Big Planet  -- second highest rated game of this year only beaten by GTA IV.

Resistance 2 -- better than the first one which can not be said to be true of Gears 2.  Received the same score from IGN as Gears 2.

Valkyrie Chronicle -- Highest rated jrpg so far this gen.  IGN scored it higher than Fable 2.

And only 1 game that arguably failed to meet exepectations in Haze. Although one is full of it if they say expectations for Haze were as high as they were for games like Infinite Undiscovery, Too Human, or Ninja Gaiden II.

In 2009 The PS3 will have God of War III, White Knight Chronicles, InFamous, Team ICO Project, Final Fantasy XIII by July in Japan, Killzone 2,  Jak and Daxter:  The Lost Territory, Ratchet and Clank Future 2, Gran Turismo 5, and the announcement of a 2010 release date for Hideo Kojima's special project. And the 360 will have a couple of mid to high 8s in Recon and Halo Wars, a 7 to 8 at best in Alan Wake; and a bunch of games that 360 fans are going to scream about how much better they are than anything that will ever be on the PS3, and then when they they are released quality publications like IGN will be there to give them the 6s, 7s, and low 8s that they deserve as the vast majority of exclusives that are coming to the 360 in 2009 are from studios that have never even had one console game to their credit.

     The PS3 knocked one million units off the 360's lead in this generation in 2008 and in 2009 it will knock three million (2 million with games that aren't called Final Fantasy and another 1 million with Final Fantasy XIII in Japan) off of whatever lead that Gears 2 and Fable II have managed to get for the 360 by 1/1/2009.

So, since the 360 is going to be beaten by the PS3 by 3,000,000 units in 2009 do you really expect it to sell 40 million consoles by the end of that year?

If Microsoft releases another console in 2009 holiday season like you claim, I don't think there would ever be a Playstation 4. Look at the Playstation brand now. Pretty bleak. Even if there was a 360-2, we would still be getting the games at the same time, on our next gen console, while you're stuck with the Playstation 3 for 10 more years. It's like when I fall asleep and the gaming devil shows up and tells me to play Braid or I'll be stuck with the Playstation 3 for 10 more years, then I wake up in a cold sweat and vomit.

That's Sony's plan at least. Like you and Microsoft, I have an inside source at Sony that tells me unbelievable things that no human could possible know.

You're leaving out major information, like how the 360 still has way more 90 and 80 plus games on metacritic and gamerankings, than the PS3.

Like how Resistance 2 and LBP flopped in sales, and R2 flopped in reviews.

Like how NPD came out yesterday, and the 360 outsold it 2 to 1.

Like how the PS3 can't sell software.

Like how you listed all the good exclusives you could think of on the PS3 in 4 lines.

Like how Gears 2 sold more than Gears 1, and how it's a better game than Gears 1, obviously. That said, I'm not sure Resistance 2 is better than the demo to Gears 1. It's certainly arguable. Having played both games, I can comment. You can't, sir.

Here is the truth, Paul. Metacritic doesn't matter. It isn't an indication of quality. That said, what you do is called "cherrypicking." You know what that means? It means that you don't consistantly refer to one of them, you switch them around to make it appear that the PS3 games were reviewed better than they actually were, and the 360 games, worse. When metacritic doesn't agree with you, you use IGN, when IGN doesn't agree with you, you use gamerankings, when gamerankings doesn't agree, you use something else. It's all just talk. Reviews mean very little already, and I can make any game look like the best game ever by cherrypicking reviews....if I'm talking to idiots that is. If I'm talking to intelligent people, they recognize the cherrypicking for what it is. Bias.

Sales matter. LBP, R2, MGS4, and all those games don't really have great sales, bro. The PS3 is increasing its lead, but what are those PS3 owners buying? Certainly not LBP or R2.

You see, as long as the 360 sells software better, equal, or slightly worse than the PS3, it'll get equal treatment in the marketplace from 3rd parties.

Every prediction you've ever made hasn't came true, and buddy, I could quote a few. If you predict something, it actually increases the chances that it won't happen.

The PS3 exclusives of 08 have came an went, and guess what. 2008 wasn't the year of the PS3. Those games didn't change anything, and most of them are currently being seen as failures by Sony. It doesn't matter what the metacritic score is, if the game loses money.

I just don't see where you're coming from. The PS2 was the best gaming system of its day. It monumentally blew away its competition with games and sales.

Now the PS3 is in dead last, 3rd place for software and hardware sales. It's struggling there. It's not in a prone position to take second. Days are grim. The Xbox 360 is leading the way in console exclusive ratings, according to your prescious metacritic and IGN. The best games on the PS3, according to them, sold ranging from fair to horrible.

The console is still unbelievably over-priced, and now you're telling me that the only way the PS3 is gonna take second place is if Microsoft puts out a new console next year!?

If memory serves me right the DS the only one that has been able to achieve this milestone of selling over 2 million in the month of December( maybe Ps2 Not sure).
December 2007 DS sold 2.47 according to NPD.

The Xbox 360 ... well lets just say it barely topped a million a Million(1.26million) in the moth of December.

but for the benefit of the doubt the xbox 360 is likely in its peak year so it could possibly get to 1.75 of 2.0 million this december but to think it will get 2.2 million in december? um i think 2.2 million is more likely to be all the sales it gets this holiday.

the wii nad Ds are the only consoles which have a chance of getting past that 2 million in december.

i expect the 360 wont sell as many consoles next year because this is the peak year for the console.

40-45 million consoles seems like a fair ltd for the 360.
reason are: its on its third year, xbox was only on the market for 4 years,
360 is doing better hardware sales wise than the xbox so for this reason i give the 360 5 years on the market therefore likley selling 40-45 million ltd
