Could have been ALOT better but still the best game i've played this generation

Without spoilers... It failed to deliver on previous set-up plots we had been waiting for a continuation of, instead just writing them off and replacing them with something new. The new plot has been done a million times in various movies, books and also in games over the years, and tries to use this to explain -everything-. On top of that, it re-writes canon facts with new ones, some of which are complete nonsense, and it also makes a quite a few timeline mistakes with older games. In fact there is one instance the game actually contradicts itself, telling us new info about the past, then tells us something else a few chapters later that means the first bit of info shouldn't have been possible. It also destroys the character of a few characters, without explanation. New characters are faceless shells. All told in the most slow and badly written way possible. It's just....poor. Since you meantion it the gameplay also sucks, its more a shooter than a stealth based game, its rediculously short, even by MGS standards, and one of the longest chapters (not counting cutscenes) requires you do almost nothing to progress through it. |
Okay, I can agree with you on the gameplay part. After playing the demo of it today. I was just roaming the environment and came across two enemy's they both saw me and I thought the consequence would me to die really quickly first thing was to either hide or not. Well I just thought in my head let me shoot them down. Well dude I just put the camera in first-person mode and I ended up killing 4 enemies, I actually thought at the time it was a shooter and not a stealth game.
The enemy wasn't able to call his teamates so I was like. Okay where is the challenge. Then what was weird I saw two different squads killing each other. It was like I was in a middle of a battle and I didn't have to shoot anyone.
Also I can agree with you on the written story part. Kojima just tried to find a way to end this story. It might had been rushed but by you giving me the description on the story. It was plain obvious he just wanted to slap anything in to get it done and over with. So I am beginning to agree with you now.
MGS4 is one of my favorite games of all time.
So what about MGS4 being poorly written? All MGS games are poorly written! It's part of the charm of the series, I think. If you don't like that kind of stuff, MGS games are realy not for you. It's like complaning that all you are doing is shooting in a FPS. Well if you didn't want that, why did you get a FPS?
MGS3 had one of the cheesiest stories ever, and I loved every minute of it! Don't think MGS4 should be any different...
FPS = shooting
MGS = Bad writing

Because if your a Metal Gear fan you could fight through it. Considering reviewers didn't find much flaws in the game at all. He just said the story was just crappy, nothing about the gameplay. I know Metal Gear central aspect is its story. But why did the story fail? |
I'mnot saying the story failed, the presentation did. 10 hurs of cutscenes is ridiculous for any game. I can watch all 3 Godfathers and the Shawshank Redemption for that time.

| kn said: I don't get it. I play a lot of games. I have all 3 current gen consoles. I like all genres. I thought MGS4 was HIGHLY overrated. I didn't even finish it. I got so bored with it that I traded it in for something else. Maybe my MGS4 was broken and the "amazing" part of it was broken or something. |
I never actually realized that people would be dissapointed in this. I predicted that because of the hype, people who never played MGS before would buy the game and hate it. It was in my "MGS4 is kinda niche" thread....but I thought I was wrong, until now.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

Actually MGS3 fixed a lot in Metal Gear Solid's story telling. MGS4 just ruins this all together with its term for ""magic"" aka nanomachines. They force this to keep mentioning nanomachines to the point you think kojima was going ""Ahhh screw this, nanomachines solve EVERYTHING! Nanomachines, nanomachines, nanomachines.""
Also Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't really a stealth game anymore because theres SO many gun fights and rail shooting moments. The fact they gave a weapons arm dealing character to give you as much guns and ammo as possible from anywhere, the risk of being found was just removed all together. The octopus suit is hardly needed in this case because its reduced to running and gunning.
When playing this it just dissapointed me after a grand achievement that was Snake Eater we got this.

Ouch, lol. I disagree, but I have to respect your opinion. It's so....ballsy.

I agree.
@Zen: You do know Solid Snake wasn't the main character in MGS3 right? But I suppose it was still A Snake so is that better?
