I'm not sure how it is in other countries other than the US or even other areas in the country but here in Chicago, I think they are widely available now. I know some people still have had problems finding them and I'm pretty sure it will get bad again in a few weeks once the holiday rush starts, I was in Best Buy yesterday looking at video games and came across the Wii dsiplay.

Since I was so used to not seeing any Wii consoles in stock at all, I would always be surprised to see a few in stock. So I was shocked to see so many sitting there. I did pick up a few to see that they were actual systems and not display boxes. So I took that picture and as I turned around, I saw a smaller but still fairly big stack of Wii systems there too. I also went into a nearby Target that's part of the same shopping mall and they had some too. So they seemed to be quite plentiful right now and if anyone wants one, it might be a good idea to get it now. It appears that Nintendo has finally gotten ahead of the demand by really increasing manufacturing. I think it might even be possible that they will have enough for anyone who wants to buy a Wii this holiday season.
One thing I did think was funny now that I'm thinking back is that I checked the salespapers for this week. In it, Circuit City or Toys R Us (can't remember which) advertised they had the Wii but would be giving out tickets prior to opening. Funny since another store had so many of them. I would think that the other stores should have no problem meeting demand. My guess is that they put it in the ad to make it seem like you better get there early and draw people into their stores.
I'll come up with something better eventually...
