Forums - Sales - The Verdict is in -- SACKBOY STRIKES BACK! 670K Week 1 WW (wk 0 + 1 in NA)

Well I like this game design. I wish there was more of it and would have started years ago. So I'm glad if this game does well. The thing is it's on the PS3, which means that this is only selling to the front loaded market. I'm serieous. Once the frontloaded sales drop off it's going to hit a very low bottom for it's legs. This is not the type of game the PS3 market originaly catered too. I think the evidence that MGS4, GTA4, Resistence proves. These types tend to have a higher explosion of sales before dropping off.

I hope i'm wrong, because I would like to see more of this type of game overall in gaming.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

LBP delivers i love it
i am totally addicted to it :(

Jo21, surly that should be :), it is for me, I'm the same. Rush home from work at lunch to piddle about on some level or other. My mind has about three good ideas at a time not that i have made them yet but hay at least I'm thinking about it

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

Ignore the silly 'Huge' comments and revel in the fact an innovative, fun and charming game can actually be a success in an industry becoming dominated with refresh/repeat/upgrade sequels, safe choices and fear of risk.

LBP is a success and a genuine treat of a game and its a shame 360/PS3 fanboys (and lest we forget fangirls) need to argue/twist and whine around the title.

For my money (finally got it) its better and far, far more original than anything I've played all year on PS3/360 and PC (I prefer its approach to Spore although they are in some senses kissing cousins).

LBP may eventually reach 'huge' sales, as if it prospers it will have very long legs, certainly longer than those of front loaded blockbusters. If not, it will at least sell enough (on the evidence so far) to justify the place for innovative games in the industry. The last time I played anything that felt this fresh was Portal. With luck L4D will be the next time I get the same rush.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Much higer than anticipated. Take that MS fanboys.

I think I have seen it a fair amount in this thread so I am going to chime in on the poor prediction practices. Your prediction does not have to be correct. Very few posters are going to be inclined to take issue with anything remotely close to a rational prediction. Part of the problem with this titles expectations is that far too many posters have gotten in a bad habit of ranging instead of predicting.

A prediction should be as hard a number as you can provide. Ranging on the other hand just takes a huge swath of territory, and says somewhere inside that. One takes skill, and the other is a lazy way to cover ass. Well that ass covering has a price, because your range that gives you that ultimate wiggle room also gives the detractors a blank check to cash.

You say this title will sell between five hundred thousand and two million. Guess which of the numbers the critics are going to quote. They are going to quote the one farthest from the true number, and they are right to do so. To turn your shitty predicting practices against you. No you were not right in fact you were the most wrong.

Ranging means you are wrong all of the time, because your not making one prediction. You are making millions of predictions, and as any gambler tells you if you place your chips across the board while you may hit pay dirt here and there you still lose out, because all your bad bets lose. You cannot play it safe and have big payouts with ranging. Not only is it unskilled, lazy, self serving, and above all a waste of bandwidth. You are handing ammunition to the detractors.

This is part of what happened to LBP a lot of lazy Sony clique members decided to hedge their bets so far and so wide that at best they were worthless, and at worst they made the group seem irresponsible. Anyway I have seen it a number of times in this thread generally ranging is bad, but under no circumstance should a range be a multiple of the base number. We are not talking the difference between one inch of rain and two inches of rain here. We are talking the difference between one inch of rain and a foot of rain. Ask the guy who had his house swept away if there is a difference.

So...this game sold higher than anticipated?

Were you expecting it to flop?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I'm curious to read PS3 NA HW and SW data for week ending 8th Nov...
Did something go wrong the week before?

Edit: curiosity satisfied, sales growing, but only good, nothing more.

Sony had an official bundle DMeisterJ, after the starter pack.

It allowed for the purchase of a PS3 and one first party game from a selection that I believe included Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and Rachet. Obviously not all the consumers chose Uncharted in their bundle, but it was a PAL-wide Sony-endorsed bundle.

Take it from someone who lives in PAL.

Gears of war 2 also come with much much cheaper bundle and also include first GeOW here in Spain. 270€ 60gb bundle with two games compared to 400€ LBP bundle. 360 is in big trouble because its still selling on par with PS3. PS3 price cut will destroy 360 completely in PAL region.

Yes intresting does that not show just how overpriced the PS3 really is to the average family on an average income looking for a games console for their family..

LBP could only make Number 4 in the uK chart -

http://www.edge-online.com/news/gears-war-2-tops-uk-charts

Gears of War 2 has shot straight to the top of the UK All Format chart (in only 2 days of sales remember) , becoming the third fastest-selling 360 game in the UK behind GTAIV and Halo 3.

"LittleBigPlanet has come in at fourth, being outsold by last week’s top-selling debutant Fallout 3, and the-ever selling FIFA 09. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Sony's other PlayStation 3 exclusive, had a dismal week where it limped into the charts at number 29."

I'm sure MS are really shaking at the thought of a PS3 price cut LOL I mean please be serious.

OK, it's done.
LBP sold only 66,278 this week in America.

Big drop for a game supposed to have legs.
Get real Fanboys.

LBP is a good game but it's not the success anticipated.
