it should appear as a "unknown Device" on the wmp11.
it does appear in network places for me.
i had similar problem i had to give it access in the firewall manually.

i'll let you know once I get my internet working on my import white PS3........
btw... for some reason Azureus/Vuze acts as a media server and my PS3 always detects it... i have no idea how that happened...
Also Nero too... Both of them I never intended as media servers....
I never was able to get WMP to see my PS3s. I am using Winamp instead. Just downloaded and installed Winamp Remote and my systems recognized it immediatly. Only thing, can't get it to share pictures. Music and video is a-ok though. Good job getting a PS3!

I didn't think to shut off my antivirus software, so I shut that off, and shut off the firewall for my router, but that didn't seem to change anything. I do have a question though. Do you just see the PS3 in WMP11, or can you see it in your network places/connections too. My PC doesn't seem to see it at all. I can ping it, but other than that the PC doesn't know it exists. @Munkeh111 for a network HDD, it must be a DLNA server. Some network harddrives are, some aren't, so you would have to look up information on the model. Other than that, I don't have a clue (or else I wouldn't be posting here @jo21 the PS3 doesn't even show up on WMP, which is my real problem. |
I don't think it's suppose to show up in network places/connections I just turned on the PS3 and it didn't show up so I'm pretty sure it's just in WMP. I'm trying to remember what I did because I was having a somewhat similar problem, it wasn't showing up in WMP at all, but now it's constantly there, even when the PS3 is off. Its gonna be under the name of "Unknown Device" if that helps.
But if nothing at all is showing up at in WMP then I'm not sure what to tell you, again you have a different connection then me, ures is wireless and mine is wired so it could be a little different. But I think the problem I had, had something to do with the firewall.
But just in case did you try clicking on "Allow other devices and computers automatically"? in the configure sharing and in settings? Not sure if it will help but it's worth a shot. Sorry I couldn't help much, I know it was a pain in the ass trying to get that working, but it's awful convient if you can actually get it going.

Yea, I know it is supposed to be an Unknown device. I've actually read a lot on how to set it up, but no one really addresses what do do if nothing is there at all.
I've tried the automatic option, but the PS3 still doesn't connect.
I guess I'll try tailgunners suggestion next, as I only really care about the music.

did you enable the options on your ps3 (its under system settings, WMA playback...just to be sure)? and did you enable media server connection (under network settings)?
check those settings out, and double check to make sure you pc settings are enabled correctly. thats all i can suggest :/
Which games are you looking forward to play PS3?

Yea, I did all that. I even disabled it and re-enabled it multiple times to make sure it wasn't something funny.
@shanbcn
well, I mostly picked it up as a blu-ray player, but off the top of my head I'm interested in.
Uncharted
Rachet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Valkyria Chronicles
Disgaea 3
White Knight Chronicles
Gran Turismo 5
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
which is actually quite the list, but I plan on getting those on the cheap, cause I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy and I already spent more than all my money for the next 3-4 months
In fact, I don't know how I'm going to beat Assasin's Creed with Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World coming in a few days.
